The third and final phase is shaping up at Lifetime Developments' over 15-year-long redevelopment of the six-acre Liberty Market Complex in Toronto's Liberty Village neighbourhood. Liberty Market Tower has been under construction on East Liberty Street since late 2018, when shoring rigs arrived for the Wallman Architects-designed 28-storey, mixed-use tower. Approaching two years later, the building's stepped podium is now nearing its final height, with tower floors soon to follow above.

We last checked in on construction in mid-May, when crews were in the process of forming the fourth floor of the building's eight-storey podium. The COVID-19 pandemic saw work on the site shut down, then restarted with precautions in place. While this has slowed the overall timeline, much progress has still been made in the months since, with the seventh and eights floors of the podium now being formed. Comparatively smaller tower floor-plates will soon emerge from its top.

As forming progresses above, the four-level base volume has recently been given its first finishes in the form of red brick-embedded precast panels. Present only on the lowest levels, this finish choice—to frame warehouse-style windows—was made to form a dialogue between the new build and the retained sections of the Liberty Market Building it rises immediately east of. Above, the upper podium levels and tower are to be clad in glass, blending with the modern Liberty Village skyline.

Liberty Market Tower will eventually top off just shy of 100 metres, set to bring 281 luxury condominium units in a range of layouts, while office and retail space will be found on lower levels.
