It's been close to a year and a half since shovels went into the ground for Menkes DevelopmentsWaterfront Innovation Centre, a new mid-rise office complex in Toronto's East Bayfront area. Since the September, 2018 start of construction, the Sweeny &Co Architects-designed development has progressed through shoring, excavation, and forming of underground levels. The 12-storey, 400,000 ft² building is now making its presence felt over Queens Quay East and Dockside Drive.

We last checked in on the project's construction five months ago, when forming was over halfway complete for the three-level, 197-space underground garage that will serve the complex, while shoring continued for a smaller footprint to the west, where the building will eventually bridge over Dockside Drive. In the months since, the garage levels have been structurally completed and the main eastern building volume has begun to rise above grade. This section of the building now stands two storeys tall, as crews begin to lay forms for the first sections of the third level.

Across Dockside Drive to the west, the building's smaller footprint has completed shoring. Due to the lack of underground levels at this end of the site, shoring was immediately followed by the laying of foundations. Most recently, ground-floor columns have emerged for the complex's western volume.

Projected to be completed in 2021, the building is expected to house about 2,000 workers from lead tenant WPP, a multinational e-commerce, advertising, online media, public relations, communications, and branding services giant, which will occupy 260,000 ft² of the complex.
