Demand for new homes in the Greater Toronto Area means that some developments are popping up in unconventional locations, and Tridel has found a particularly scenic one in Thornhill. Here, at the east end of the Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto, the company plans to build a new two-building condo development just off of Bayview Avenue at Royal Orchard Boulevard. While unaffiliated with the club, the Royal Bayview complex will enjoy a resort-style vantage point overlooking the course, a perk made celebrated by the project's marketing material.
We got a detailed look at the complex's relationship to the golf club—and a taste of the landscape architecture by Janet Rosenberg + Studio—when we visited Tridel's Head Office presentation centre at 4800 Dufferin Street. There, a scale model of the development created by Myles Burke Architectural Models, is currently on display. Of course, it also highlights the design of the towers by Kirkor Architects.
Access to the 14-storey 'The Bayview' and the 12-storey 'The Royal' will be from Royal Orchard Boulevard. The landscaping around the grand circular driveway is meant to evoke the atmosphere of a classic golf club for those arriving here.
The west side of the buildings include step-backs on most floors, creating a series of generous private terraces for residents that can effectively double as stadium seating overlooking the adjacent golf club. Ample windows over the greens will give residents expansive views of the golf club from inside their suites, too.
The scale model also shows off how the Royal Bayview will meet the ground; on the west side of the buildings' entrance pavilion is where its II BY IV-appointed amenities are gathered. We got a first look at them last month, and through the model we can see that they take good advantage of the gorgeous views to the golf course, with patios that spill out from the various spaces including lounges, a dining room, and the fitness centre.
