This week's Throwback Thursday turns the clocks back seven years, comparing a pair of east-facing views overlooking Toronto's waterfront as seen from the top of the Westin Harbour Castle on Queens Quay. Back in 2012, this view focused on the construction site of Cityzen and Fernbrook Homes' Waterlink at Pier 27, an architectsAlliance-designed condominium development consisting of four 11-storey buildings joined in pairs by two three-storey sky-bridges. Other changes were also unfolding in the distance, including construction at Cityscape and Dream Unlimited's topped out 40-storey Clear Spirit Condos at the Distillery District.
The same view captured in 2019 shows that the since-completed Waterlink at Pier 27 development is being joined by Tower at Pier 27, a 35-storey condo tower now topped out at the northwest corner of the community. Other new additions include the two cranes of Time and Space Condos in the distance on the far left, The Globe and Mail Centre just to their right, cranes for Sugar Wharf Condos Phase 1 also on the left but closer in, glimpses of Monde behind the Tower at Pier 27, and just behind the new park at Sherbourne Common, Aqualina. In the distance on the harbour's eastern shore, work on the flood protection and lakefilling project is now ongoing at the Port Lands.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
