Menkes Developments is bringing a new 4.6 million ft², mixed-use community to Toronto's waterfront known as Sugar Wharf. Under construction since the end of 2017, the project's initial phases include a new 25-storey office tower and a pair of condo towers rising 64 and 70 storeys. Before these first towers can rise into skyline views, crews are hard at work on the projects' early stages of structural forming.
Designed by architectsAlliance, Sugar Wharf Condos Phase 1 is under construction at the northeast quadrant of the former LCBO Lands site. Since the start of 2019, crews have been forming the five-level underground parking garage that will serve the two condominium towers. The last of these parking levels, the P1 floor, is now taking shape, and above grade forming is set to begin any day now above completed sections of the parking garage.
Following the pouring of the ground floor in the coming weeks, the condominium towers will begin their gradual ascent towards heights of 218 and 230 metres above Lake Shore Boulevard. Once complete, the towers will bring over 1,400 units combined to the emerging stretch of waterfront. These will be followed by even more density in the northwest quadrant, once the existing LCBO offices there now are vacated for the new office tower being built in the southeast quardrant.
Immediately south of the first phase condo site, and across a future extension of Harbour Street, the 25-storey, B+H Architects-designed office tower at 100 Queens Quay East is now rising above street level. The first two floors of the podium are now in place, with forming now getting going for the third level. Once complete, the building will host the new headquarters for the LCBO, as well as new office space for The Toronto Region Board of Trade and its trade services arm, the World Trade Centre Toronto.
