The area south of Toronto's Financial District has been significantly built out in recent years, with the area south of Union Station having taken the moniker "South Core" as of late. Back on August 12, 2006, the wave of redevelopment responsible for reshaping the area into a mixed-use, high-density district had yet to make landfall, and the skyline view facing west from Lake Shore Blvd. east of Bay was still dominated by the CN Tower.
Fast forward to May 28, 2015, and a collection of new high-rise developments have dramatically altered the backdrop. New additions visible in the image below include Maple Leaf Square, Telus House, Ïce Condominiums, and a sliver of the SouthCore Financial Centre. Several other new additions are obscured by the historic Streamline Moderne facade of the former Toronto Postal Delivery Building, which was incorporated into the Air Canada Centre.
Give it another couple of years, and this view itself will be gone as 81 Bay and the new Metrolinx Bus Terminal replaces the parking lot in the foreground.
We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto!
