If the Dollarama at Islington and Rexdale has taught us anything, it's that your typical Dollarama can survive even the most nuclear of enclosed mall demolitions;
just as long as the lease price is right and the space is still available to rent.

If Woodbine Mall were to get demolished, there's still a chance TD, Freedom and Dollarama could live on - as components of (yet another) Etobicoke strip mall.

I don't. There's still some life in it yet, depending on what the plan is for replacing the former Bay space. HOPEFULLY not another liquidation store.

Whoever takes it over has quite the task to refurb the place. So maybe rebuilding a bunch of box stores would be the cheapest way forward?

It's been a while since I posted any retro photos of Woodbine's history here.
The following is a view of Highway 27 looking north to Rexdale Blvd. I believe the year was around 1955.
On the right, you can see the old Highfield Public School in the area that would eventually become the Woodbine Centre.

Highfield Public School was built in 1874. A single classroom, one teacher setup that existed on these lands until the school was closed in 1954, and
then demolished by 1957.

The below aerial map shows a view of the land from 1956. While Rexdale's redevelopment was underway, the surrounding area
still mostly-consisted of Methodist era farmland.

Highway 27 appears on the left with Rexdale Blvd towards the bottom of the page.
