Replace "Iran" with "America"....

Ask Amnesty International. The USA has many human rights violations. It is controlled by a religious government "We must protect the sanctity of marriage"; Bush's idea to hand billions over to church groups that engage in charity, etc.

Tolerance of others' beliefs? "What, you let gays marry? You want to legalize pot? We'll slam the border shut if you do it!" to paraphrase some US senators. Then you have nations like Canada which decided not to partake in the war on Iraq but help in other ways... and we were punished for it through US policy.

Oh, and USA kills its citizens as well. You know, the death penalty? Why don't you just chop a person's hand off for stealing?



Bush is no friend on Canada, and America is no ally of Canada. The USA acts in its own interests, and let everyone else go to hell.

As far as CBC paying for the short--who cares? We believe in diversity of opinions. Just because we don't like the opinion doesn't mean we have to shut it down.

Not only that but the FBI is responsible for teaching some South American countries how to "interrogate" using electrodes, red-hot irons and drugs. All to end cocaine from being shipped into the US.

And pot, US Pharmaceutical companies (such as those that make Prozzac) would shrivel up and die if pot was legalized. Its cheaper and in many ways safer because its natural.

This video hits it on the nail. I'm looking forward to seeing Bush defeated... although, I'm beginning to see that maybe it won't be in the next election.

If you think of it, that ain't too bad. Hilary Clinton is said to be interested in running next time around ( 2008 ) if a democrat isn't already in place in the 2004 elections. This is the perfect opportunity for the US to elect their first female president.. and it's about time! :cheers:

First off, you seem to be confusing the CBC for a state-sponsored television network which it is not. The CBC is "public broadcasting" that is supported by both the Canadian public (through taxes) and through ad revenues on certain television programs. The Government of Canada has no direct say in what does or doesn't get aired on the CBC as legislated by the Broadcasting Act and as monitored by the "arms length" of the CRTC.

Moreover, Zed-TV costs the CBC pennies to produce as it merely takes existing product from independent Canadian artists and gives them a platform to showcase their work on (some of it indeed being controversial). Even if a significant amount of my tax dollars were being used, this is still exactly what a public broadcaster should be doing.

I'll take my CBC that challenges and occassionally entertains, over Goldie Gardner begging for my money between American Experience repeats anyday. Moreover, I'll take my CBC (and any other properly funded public broadcaster) over the flag-waving hysteria of any of the big U.S. cable news networks anyday as well.

CBC versus those American simulcast networks CTV and Global? No contest. Their news is top-notch, the quality of its Canadian content far better than the token Canadian shows on Global or even CTV. CBC Radio (except for the awful afternoon Roundup–put that sad goat out of its misery, please–and some other shows) is as good, if not better.

The CBC fulfills its mandate well, despite all the cutbacks (and perhaps even more from Martin). Its news programs are the most objective and insightful. Except for the McNeil-Lether report, nothing comes close in the mainstream US broadcast media. Just try CNN or FOX news.

In the press, there is a wide diversity of views in the US, but not generally in the daily newspapers. The mainstream magazines go from left (Mother Jones, Harper's) to right (Time, New Republic), plus all those international publications. But there's little on the television.

Illegal? Where? Illegal in the US? In other words, you no longer support the ideals of democracy and free speech? Or illegal in Canada, which would be news to us and would be yet another example of Americans thinking they can impose their own laws and ideals on other countries and their people?

The very fact that you think people here would support these ludicrous ideas supports the stereotype of the solipsistic American - who knows nothing outside his own borders and thinks everyone else in the world is or should be just the same as himself. Shame - I thought that stereotype was false.

Who is this guy and why is he here? I've been getting a lot of email at work from The Right in the US. Most of you should know by now that I'm one of the owners of chartattack.com plus chart magazine. Every time we do a story on artists against the Iraq war or Bush (Dixie Chicks etc.) we get a ton of mail. We don't editorialize but usually just mention what the story is (Dixie Chick thinks Bush is an idiot etc). Every time we run a story like this we get guys like patriot showing up. And many! These folks are very organized and they will win if the Democrats in the US don't get their act together.

The fact that these people will join UT to push their view about Bush says something. Or we have a 12 year old who hasn't got a GI Joe or whatever the modern version is.

The CBC Is Extremely Biased

I made a thread about this video over at PABAAH that has some interesting articles written by some people over at the CBC:

CBC is the Canadian BBC, and might be even more anti-american. CBC has a spin-off channel called Newsworld(yes, the one Gore wants to buy). On this channel they have a show called Counterspin where they routinely fill the audience with muslims to get anti-semitic and anti-american attitudes. They also employ kook leftists as talking heads. One of which writes for the Toronto star as a media specialist and her main idea during the war was how Fox News is evil and biased while Al Jazeera should be on canadian airwaves because it can be trusted to give a fair and balanced view. Forget the fact al Jazeera runs shows where clerics call for the death of all jews, americans, etc.
