Whole Foods

That render is supposed to be Bayview and Broadway? The intersection looks nothing like that. I thought it was maybe Kitchener downtown. I hate these totally misleading renders.

I'm very curious to see Whole Food's long-term sustainability in this market. Opening up new stores has been one of their plans to grow their market share, but the competition is really tight in this arena. Although they specialize in the high-end fresh produce, which they do very well in, they need to outperform in the "standard" areas as well. Location-wise, these new stores are well situated, so I'll be watching how it develops.

As renderings go, this one is not all that misleading. It mainly just shows the proposed development. They've eliminated the hydro wires and traffic lights (except for one odd light on the right side of the page), but I think that's fair artistic license given that they are trying to show the building. The only real inaccuracy is that they didn't show the southbound left turn lane on Bayside, but that's a pretty minor thing. When we see renderings all the time that show proposed developments surrounded by bucolic forests and green space instead of the surface parking lots, highway on-ramps and dated buildings that actually surround the site, this one isn't bad.

^ The rendering is post-completion, not a reflection of what exists today. Pedestrians aren't drawn to vacant lots. Or even car dealerships (the previous use). They will presumably be drawn by the retail. Given the surrounding residential areas, it's not unlikely that some customers will choose to walk, and that we'll see a lot more pedestrians at that intersection, once they have something to walk to.

The new location at Hullmark Centre (Yonge and Sheppard) seems to be ramping up. They have a "Now Hiring" banner hung on the window and you can see that internal construction is well underway. Currently scheduled for a Fall opening, but I hope they are ahead of schedule.

Thanks! I have been waiting for a Whole Foods to open up further north!

Same here. With current locations either in Yorkville or up in Markham at Warden & 7, it really leaves a void in the midtown area. This new location will serve a very large area and should be a successful venture.

Bayview Whole Foods progress:
