Who will be the next Liberal leader?

Oh, well put, I'm still rusty on my Canadian geography.

I saw in the news this morning that China has opened a new train to Tibet from Beijing. Apparently it takes 48 hours, one way, and they have to pump oxygen into the cabin at one point due to the mountains. I imagine this is part of China's plan to change the demographic of Tibet from, well, Tibetan, to conventional Chinese (can't think of a proper term for that, but I mean Mandarins, or is that Clemantines, you know, those oranges that peel like zippers).

Shouldn't someone who's lived here long enough to vote in multiple elections be aware that Winnipeg and Toronto are pretty far apart?

Yes. My bad. Happy?

"I imagine this is part of China's plan to change the demographic of Tibet from, well, Tibetan, to conventional Chinese"

You know, Admiral Beez said the same thing on 15/3/04:
"Tibet's population is now becoming predominantly Chinese, less Tibetan, so freeing Tibet from China will be akin to freeing New York from the USA."

scarberian:

Actually the argument has been around for awhile - and it's probably a reasonable one re: Chinese intent.

Abeja:

The term I've heard being used in this context would be "Han Chinese".

AoD

That's what I've always seen as the purpose of that railway. The USSR did the exact same thing for the lands they annexed.

Oh, I don't care about Tibet, I just used that line to show that Abeja might be Admiral Beez...

Oh, I don't care about Tibet,
That's an honest opinion I can appreciate. I don't agree with it myself, as I think it's not good at all that China is effectively trying to clense the place of the original inhabitants.

Oh, I care about Tibet, just not in this thread. I've already said why I brought it up.

It's incredible. In just an afternoon, the results for the next Liberal leader are swaying.

Gerrard Kennedy (my favorite candidate) has just passed Stephane Dion nationally and is now in first place in Ontario. His bottleneck is Quebec.

I still feel he can pull ahead of Bob Rae if any of the other single digit candidates drop out. If Ken Dryden dropped out and supported Kennedy, it could propel Kennedy to #2 on the first ballot and the free vote held after would be anybody's game.

I think Kennedy will be another David Miller: coming from behind late in the game to win the election.

If Kennedy doesn't make it, it will be such a waste of talent since he had to drop out of Provincial politics to run.

Anything in the top 3 would be a success for Kennedy. He's a young guy and making a name for himself in Federal politics.

Well, I guess if he places in the top 3, the winner (potentially Ignatieff) would want him to run federally as an MP and receive a cabinet position.

I seriously cannot wait for another federal election (funny most people can't wait to get rid of them). Harper's had enough of a free ride with no official opponent.

Interesting Factoid: If Ignatieff becomes our next prime minister, our next First Lady's name will be Zsuzanna M Zsohar.

When was the last time (if at all) we had a prime minister who's name wasn't English or French originated?
