TTC: Streetcar Network

Pretty much every bit of the network is being rebuilt over the past few years?
How about the last decade plus and it is a must since the CLRV's and ALRV's did a number on the track system since they were tanks in the first place.

The QQE extension was approved by all levels, yet here we are still waiting for it to be built. The plan was to go to Parliament St Loop and running around 2014 as QQE road wasn't design yet to Cherry St. Today, part of Cherry St is built and open with the rest by summer 2023 months late.

Current plans call for the QQE Line to go over the Keating LRT Bridge down to Commissioner St and east on to an X point before the Don River to a loop on the north side by 2030, if that. Going up to Cherry St Loop will only happen after the OL is built to the point that is were QQE will go in place of the Portland/Lower Don Lands

I think a lot of this has to do with Waterfront Toronto and their lack of caring about anything beside there current project

The rebuilding of the Union Loop has been a major cost from day one with TTC not having the $90 million to do the work that is now up to $600. I remember standing next to Miller and the CEO of Waterfront Toronto at a meeting back in 2007 where the CEO asked Miller when he would see funds to cover the cost of the extension as well the cars for it. Miller stated it was in the works as it was important to help with the redevelopment of QQE and the waterfront along those lines. 18 years later, where are we??

At the same time, Waterfront Toronto has over spent on various projects as well placing low return on the dollar to help cover the cost of redevelopment of QQE as well the extension of it to Cherry St ahead of other ones with a bigger return.

We been at rehashing all the Toronto Waterfront Transit Plans since 2019 that has yet to see a public meeting on the latest Vision for the QQE plan. Most likely it will not happen until 2023 in place of the fall of 2022 until a new council is in place on the various committees.

You also got to thank the mayor for the delay as well the lack of funds to so he can rebuilt the east Gardiner the is a money pit and waste of land use.

The fact that we can fund concrete parks and building islands with bridges built in the Netherlands and shipped here instead of funding transit is the biggest mistake. Also why didn't waterfront Toronto put in bridges for possible streetcars instead of saying it can be done later. The whole project has been a mess and waste of money from all levels of government.

Because all of their stuff is crap that they are forcing on us without a proper public input on it

No that's because waterfront Toronto rushed ahead with taking down a useful section of the Gardner Expressway instead now anyone who wants to avoid the mess that they created to actually use the Gardner Expressway has to get in the DVP. That's really smart of them to do that. Waterfront Toronto has been a joke ever since they made a mess of queues Quay with the stupid garantie paving stones it's no wonder they are over budget with all of the the waste of money that they use on materials.
 
I don't think that's a fair take. We have the best bus network in the continent, GO is upgrading to the best signaling system in the world, and acquiring/rebuilding several rail lines. We're also planning the biggest transit expansion in the continent, and are spending tens of billions on LRT's in the GTHA.
For the GO buses to operate properly, we need bus only (maybe HOV) lanes for them. The single-occupant motorists keep slowing down everyone.

When the streetcar tracks get reconstructed, we need to put back cobblestones between the tracks. If the motorists need a smoother ride, use the streetcars or get off the tracks. The cobblestones were removed in the late 20th century by the lobbying of the motorists.

Do you have any justification for cobblestones? The city does a TERRIBLE JOB maintaining them, look at all the missing stones on sidewalks, and the nice utility cut areas that are asphalt several years later.
They're also worse for cyclists and those with mobility issues

The 407 GO buses are pretty frequent and busy actually, but they don't really need bus lanes since the traffic always flows fine there anyway. The 401 buses are not very popular, but that's because they get stuck in traffic. It's reasonable to assume that if the 401 buses had dedicated lanes, they would be equally or more popular than the 407 buses given that there is more stuff around the 401 than around the 407.

It doesn't need to be literal cobblestone, it can simply concrete with a stamped cobblestone pattern like was originally used on Spadina. Areas where traffic is allowed to cross use ordinary brushed concrete, so there's no issue for cyclists or accessibility.
 
I know some routes are busy but I’d rather they push cp rather than take an entire highway lane 24/7 as a bandaid solution.

Then there is of course the problem that trying to get further use out of the Galt corridor is much easier said than done, as CP hoards it like Gollum hoarded the ring, even though they only run a few trains on there a day.

Nobody has given a justification for why cobblestone is worth implementing? Also I literally bike along the tracks like on dundas when I have to make a left to one of the side streets.

I'm not saying get rid of the buses but an eliminating an ENTIRE LANE for mostly out of town sprawl commuters seems idiotic when the roads are full of trucks and people actually in the city.

and they stopped using it because it was hard to plow and an added cost when they replaced the concrete in the track so not relly any point to it.
 
Yes, the streetcar tracks on Adelaide are being replaced from Victoria to Charlotte/Spadina and they have put up lots of new/replacement poles between Church and Spadina. Moving along!
