TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Because in Toronto there are really no places where you can do this sort of thing.

Unless you redirect the Bloor-Danforth line through High Park or the Sheppard Line via Edwards Gardens there is no feasible way to do this.
The Line 2 subway between Runnymede and Dundas West does go out in the open. And they use grey concrete to "beautify" it.

They love pink tunnels in Asia. Hong Kong built one between a ferry terminal and a bus stop. Everyone stands in the middle of it to pose endlessly for pictures. That works well...

If they are allegedly are returning the rainbow art installation (this time with LED lights) at Yorkdale Station, surely they can pretty up the open air right-of-ways (streetcar, light rail, and heavy rail). (And don't call me Shirley!)

Pro-rated credits for March and April (2020) monthly passes

From link.

Who is eligible for a pro-rate credit?

You are eligible to receive a pro-rated credit for your March or April 2020 monthly pass if:

  • You did not travel on the TTC at all between March 18-31 or April 1-30
  • You travelled on the TTC for some (but not all) days between March 18-31 or April 1-30
  • Monthly passes purchased before March or after April are not eligible for the credit.

Getting your credit:

You must tap your card on a PRESTO reader when boarding a vehicle on any transit agency that uses PRESTO or entering a TTC subway station to have your credit loaded onto your card. You will be charged your normal fare when doing this.

You can also load your credit on your card at a Self-Serve Reload or Fare Vending Machine at all stations, by visiting any Shoppers Drug Mart location, or at the TTC’s Customer Service Center at Davisville Station.

You can use your pro-rated credit to pay your fare as you go, if you aren’t ready to purchase a monthly pass yet, or you can put it towards the cost of a monthly pass. If they are using the credit to purchase a monthly pass, you must purchase it at a Shoppers Drug Mart location or at the TTC’s Customer Service Centre at Davisville Station.

Examples of how your pro-rated credit for 2020 was determined:

Heavy use e.g. Customer who uses the TTC daily and pays their fare with an Adult Monthly Pass $156.00

Ranjit buys Monthly adult passes to pay for his daily commute. He uses his March pass for the first 2 weeks: 10 weekday return trips from March 1 to 13 then works from home for the remainder of March with no usage after the Ontario declaration of emergency on March 17, 2020. He purchased an April pass. However, Ranjit continues to work from home for all of April and does not use his card.

March Refund $5.03 x (March 18 to 31 = 14 days) + April Refund $5.20 x 30 days = $70.42 (March) + $156.00 (April) = $226.42

Medium use e.g. Customer who uses Youth Monthly Pass $128.15

Solange attends high school. She moved to a blended attendance (online and onsite) since April. She purchased monthly Youth passes for March and April. During March she used her pass for 22 days from March 1 to 22 and in April for 10 days.

March Refund $4.13 x (March 23 to 31 = 9 days) + April Refund $4.27 x (30 – 10 days) = $37.17 (March) + $85.40 (April) = $122.57

Limited use e.g. Customer who uses the TTC for weekday appointments and weekend shopping and pays with a Monthly Fair Pass $123.25

Sam makes limited trips in the week, but is a consistent user of his Fair Pass over a month. In March he travelled on 15 days from March 17 to 31 and in April he travelled on 16 days.

March refund $3.98 x (0 days as card used daily, after the March 17 Ontario declaration of emergency, from March 18 to 31) + April Refund $4.11 x (30 – 16 days) = $0 (March) + $57.54 (April) = $57.54

DTE = Downtown Express (refund will be adjusted for DTE passes based on service availability of DTE buses. Amounts will be reviewed per pass).

When Line 5 opens in 2022, there will be a 34 EGLINTON "local" bus running from Mt. Dennis Station to Science Centre Station. I'm assuming that is in case if an elevator is out-of-service at any one or more stations, the "route" will still be "accessible". In addition, should there be a service delay, passengers will still be able to use some transit along the route.

Shouldn't they have a "local" bus running along Yonge Street (Queens Quay to Steeles) and Bloor & Danforth (Kipling Station to Sheppard & McCowan Station)? Just in case an elevator is out-of-service or, worse, a "service delay"?

They could add (articulated) buses, if they need more.

Too bad they removed the streetcars on those routes, then they'll have a larger capacity vehicle at the ready.

Already running is a 97 Yonge bus that runs from Queen's Quay to Steeles, stopping at local streets along the way, and branches that short turn at key bus terminals on the Yonge Line. This really helps the long distances between a lot of the stations. Obviously, this is less frequent than the subway so it's just for local service. And there's night service

For the University Side, there is simply no direct route along the west leg. And any local service for just this subway won't make sense. Just take parallel routes.

There is no daytime local bus service on Line 2, just night routes. Fair reasoning being that 90% of the stations are actually walkable to any place on the Bloor-Danforth Corridor. And ridership would probably be very low. Just take the subway.

Line 3 has the 43B and 903. 43B runs on Kennedy and Progress to Scarborough Centre (less frequent obviously). The 903 running on Brimley and Eglinton surprisingly is the only express route directly for providing extra service along the corridor between Kennedy and Scarborough Centre.

Line 4 has the usual 85 Sheppard East running on the street serving local streets from Yonge to Don Mills and further east with local and express service.

It's kinda funny that we put the rainbow-themed art installation at a station that isn't the one in the gay village. But I am very excited to see this return to Yorkdale.
