TTC: Other Items (catch all)

You cant include North Bay without including Sudbury, and you cant include Sudbury without including Sault Ste Marie, and you cant include that without including Thunder Bay ... and the list goes on. Muskoka kinda falls into this bucket too as some services count it as Northern Ontario.

That's what SUPRAlinx will be for, to oversee both "Superlinx" and Metrolinx. Tho we may need a Sublinx and Interlinx to coordinate between them. All of course under the umbrella of Bureaucracylinx.

What about SORTAlinx? You can get some places but not all of them. It kinda connects with others parts of Ontario.

The MTA is in a state of disrepair unlike any metro system I’m aware of. NYT claims it's the worst performing major metro system in the world, but that claim doesn’t even begin to convey the magnitude of the situation in New York. I’m not hopeful that even Mr Byford is going to be able to fix it. He’s going to have his hands tied by mismanagement and interference from Governor Andrew Cuomo.

There are those (especially some politicians we know) who think that digging a hole in the ground for transit is all that's needed. Out of sight, no more problems. Don't need to spend any more money. How very wrong!
 
So it took just about an hour tonight (8:45-9:45pm) on the subway for me to get from Queens Park Station up to Wilson. The excuse was "service adjustments." Is there any reason why it takes so long for the TTC to remove rush hour trains?? There has to be a more efficient way in doing this.

On the same note, the TTC should actually increase post-evening rush hour service. Right now on average it's standing room only on northbound trains from Bloor around 10:30pm.
 
Reduced speed zones in effect on TTC Line 1

The TTC would like to advise customers travelling on Line 1 Yonge-University that they may experience longer-than-usual travel times due to reduced speed zones at the following locations:

Museum to St George
Direction: northbound only
Reason: rail replacement
Repairs expected to be completed Dec. 4

St George Station
Direction: southbound only
Reason: rail replacement
Repairs expected to be completed Nov. 29

St George to Spadina
Direction: northbound only
Reason: rail replacement
Repairs expected to be completed Dec. 4

North York to Finch
Direction: northbound only
Reason: track components replacement
Repairs expected to be completed Nov. 29

Davisville to Eglinton
Direction: both ways
Reason: track rehabilitation
Repairs expected to be completed Dec. 29

As a safety precaution, the TTC implements restricted speed zones along sections of rail where maintenance is required after subway service has ended. Operating speeds are reduced through those sections to allow trains to safely continue operating during service hours.

Reduced speed zones around work areas, as well as other safety measures, protect workers if they need to be at track level to conduct routine or emergency inspections during service hours. At any given time, subway systems like Toronto's can expect to have two-to-three reduced speed zones at any one time.

The TTC thanks its customers for their patience. Communicating these service impacts via social media, the news media, its website and by train crews helps ensure customers have up-to-date information before departing on their journey or while en route.
 
I was on one of the downtown express buses (extra fare) for the first time today and noticed people getting on downtown (like Bloor).

Is there some sort of deal where you pay regular fare once the bus gets downtown? Seems bizarre someone would pay 6 bucks for such a short trip.

Ultralinx (the public protector who tirelessly works for the little man and two hour transfers) needs a uniform...the lycra keeps getting caught in the old turnstiles.

The head of subway operations had the brain-wave about a year ago to run trains into Wilson Yard northbound from Wilson - and across the southbound mainline, through a pair of slow-speed crossovers - rather than southbound from Sheppard West. Despite what many, many, many people have said about how badly this screws up operation - and make no mistake, you've witnessed it - he seems dead-set on continuing the practice.

I suspect that it won't get better until he finally comes to his senses or is removed from the position.

In theory, staffing costs are lower because those crews are able to run out of service almost 10 minutes sooner if they're turning back at Sheppard West, and more than a half-hour sooner if they're running all the way to VMC.

The reality is that they are paying out a ton of overtime because of the delays, however.
