TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I'm surprised there isn't something at Adelaide and Church.
Yes, it is ridiculous! If one is on an eastbound 501 and wants to transfer to a 504 at Church (50 yards south) to go to Distillery, one has to go all the way north to Queen and walk back. I generally support the TTC examining (and reducing) the number of stops but ...

If a computer can prevent a TR from driving with an open door, I see no reason why it can't prevent a truck driving with a raised bed either.

Operators will jury rig the sensor after a glitch so that they can continue working, and once it's disabled it's forever disabled. This is the way... :(

They appear to have dealt with quite a few RSZs since their last report - I assume the recent Line 1 closures helped but still more to do!

IDK why they took it off but there is certainly still a RSZ southbound between Summerhill and Rosedale

TTC completes streetcar power network repairs at King and Spadina, restores service

Dec. 20, 2024

TTC crews have completed repairs at King and Spadina, and 504 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcar service has resumed regular routing. 510 Spadina buses will return to regular routing after the intersection is de-iced this morning.

Statement from Greg Percy, TTC CEO

After working day and night for the past three days, TTC crews have completed extensive repairs at the intersection of King St. and Spadina Ave., which means it can reopen for streetcar service.

I want to thank everyone for their tireless efforts to complete this work quickly and safely. I also want to thank our customers for their patience during the closure.

This complex intersection has multiple intertwining cables and connectors supported by multiple poles.

All of this infrastructure had first to be inspected to determine the extent of the damage.

Once the inspection was complete, crews had to re-string the cables and restore power.

With this work complete, the 504 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcar service can resume on King St.

I want to recognize everyone’s hard work and dedication to getting this done.

Free subway platform Wi-Fi ends Dec. 27 as TTC moves to modernize, improve connectivity

Dec. 20, 2024

Access to free Wi-Fi on TTC subway platforms will end on Dec. 27 as the TTC moves away from an old, unreliable network and toward more reliable and secure connectivity options for customers.

The free TConnect service in TTC subway stations has been declining in usage with poor performance while facing cybersecurity concerns and increasing costs.

With concerns about use, performance and security, the TTC has decided to decommission the service while continuing to work with Rogers on building out the fast and secure 5G cellular service in tunnels.

At the same time, the TTC is looking into a pilot project that would provide free Wi-Fi at static locations like bus bays and platforms. An update report on that pilot will be presented to the TTC Board early next year.

Through the City’s ConnectTO program, those who rely on free public Wi-Fi have access at free public Wi-Fi at more than 100 locations, primarily at libraries and community centres.

TConnect launched in 2013 and is available only on subway platforms. It does not extend into the tunnels. Based on current ridership and known usage of the network, less than three per cent of TTC customers log in to it at any time.

More information on connectivity on the TTC can be found at https://www.ttc.ca/customer-service/Wi-Fi-In-Our-Stations-and-Cellular-Service

Alejandra Bravo is now on the TTC board. I don't know who she replaced. Anyone have an updated list of the changes to the Board. Or was it just the addition of Bravo?

Chris Moise and Holyday are off. Replaced by Bravo and Malik
Wow, Stephen Holyday is finally off.

Obviously they all line up with Chow, and TTC is a high profile position. But I think Amber Morley would have been a better replacement for Stephen Holyday. She represents Etobicoke, and she also aligns with Chow. And I'm sure she'll need a high profile position to help her for next election.

Next step, replacing the citizen board members. Long over due. Any Tory deadwood should be removed.

Holyday has actually only been on Board for 2 years - yes, 2 years too long, but..... He replaced Minnan-Wong as Olivia was trying to be 'nice'.
