TTC: Major Operational Issues (Various)

From the Star:

Well, I guess that clenched who I don't want to see as the CEO.

AoD

Yeah.....between that and slow orders aren't a big deal.............not good answers.

I think Greg means well, and at least he takes the system...........but those are just terrible answers

A new problem. Finch station cross over has a RSZ.

It's causing backups northbound from York Mills.

How rude of me, I didnt even wish a Happy 1 Year Anniversary to the following slow orders!:

---> Bloor-Yonge - Rosedale
---> Yorkdale - Lawrence West
---> Wilson - Sheppard West

And let's give a special round of applause to the following stretch which is approaching a full 52 weeks of speed restrictions:
---> Coxwell - Woodbine

I cant wait until the TTC's annual track geometry survey is concluded in a few weeks, lord knows what other slow zones will be imposed on us for another 52 weeks.

At this point, this is going to turn into a dog chasing it's tail situation. The TTC cant even rectify the problems that have existing in the system right now, and if their survey finds more problem area (which it likely will), how will they fix those when they havent even addressed the issues at present?

Let's give another round of applause to the former idiotic CEO Rick Leary who led us down to this screwed up situation.

Also with Bathurst cars not running due to construction near fleet this would be the perfect time to fix the tracks near Bathurst and Front. But instead they will initiate another closure on a separate time to do the work.
And why is it that there is always no construction going on? Equipment is constantly idle.

Yes, the TTC are not good about bundling work so that they take the maximum advantage of closures. They MAY be better at it on subway but it appears to be a foreign concept for the surface network. It is MAYBE encouraging that when Church & King is closed they will apparently (according to Steve Munro) deal with the King overhead between Yonge and River and, maybe, do some work fixing the badly deteriorated 'margins' on the tracks in many locations along King.

But it's not even that they don't have enough construction crews available since most is outside contractors.

Any insight into the slow order southbound from York Mills to Lawrence?

It's agony, and I can't imagine this being sustainable for the long term. They just did a weekend shutdown, so I had hoped the slow order would be resolved.

Most likely some kind of track defect/misalignment issue. As to when it will be fixed, your guess is as good as anyone's.

This whole situation is just a laughable, embarrassing joke at this point. They are closing the subway early all this week between College and Sheppard-Yonge. Will they address the issue so it's resolved next week? I'm betting no, but they're more than welcome to prove me wrong. I'm also betting that they will fail to address the year long issue between Bloor-Yonge and Rosedale, and Davisville and St.Clair.

There's another slow zone between Eglinton and Davisville that the TTC fails to illustrate on their subway crawl at snail pace map:

Interesting the original plan was only 3 weeks of early weekday subway closures between Sheppard and College, culminating in a full weekend closure.

Well that didnt take long, the TTC is straight out lying about about some speed restrictions now.

That "seasonal" slow zone that's in place between York St and the Harbourfront Tunnel at Bay has been removed from the TTC's website, however in reality the slow zone is still in place:

If by "seasonal" they mean all-year round, then they are certainly on the money. This organization is actually laughably hopeless. Sincerely I hope the new CEO can flip a lot of switches around, because this situation has turned into a comically atrocious mess.

I would suspect that if one has been driving a streetcar on a route all winter and there was an obligatory Reduced Speed Zone on a block of it, even if the RSZ was removed, it would be a while (if ever) before I went over it at full speed.

For new streetcar ops that would be the case, since the TTC trains them in an overly cautious way for everything to the point that they virtually crawl along everywhere.

The thing here is; the TTC still has restricted speed signage up on the wiring. So streetcar ops arent choosing to operate slowly in this case, this is just pure TTC neglect and lack of giving a damn.

Due to the lack of funding for public transit in general. Cheaper to go slow than to operate it properly.

That's not the problem when it comes to the TTC's streetcar network. It's the TTC's insistence on keeping archaic rules in the name of "safety" that's the much bigger problem.

There's nothing stopping the TTC tomorrow from abolishing the idiotic crawl at 10km/h through signalized intersections rule for instance, or rule where streetcars crawl under low-clearance tunnels. The only thing stopping it, is their own reluctance and fear.
