I don't understand why the city is wasting money on a BRT from Downsview to York. With the subway coming (hopefully the feds include it in the March budget) what is the point in building a BRT to operate for a couple of years while waiting for the subway to be completed - surely the money could be better spent elsewhere.

That's why they called it "interim bus lanes" and not "brt"

Well it is definitely BRT. It's going to run on an exclusive road in the hydro corridor.
I speculate it's because they're far from certain that the subway will be built, and because there is a large group within the TTC that is opposed to the subway construction and want to build this as an alternative.

Using the Sheppard line as a precedent, you're looking at a minimum of eight years of use.what is the point in building a BRT to operate for a couple of years while waiting for the subway to be completed

The BRT to York U along the Finch Hydro Corridor is not interim at all. It will eventually be extended west to the Mississauga Transitway. There will also be an extension north to connect with the 407 Transitway.
