Kitchener Young Condos | 74.5m | 25s | Andrin | BDP Quadrangle

Thanks for the Kitchener / Waterloo updates today. Looks like we at UT need to stretch our vision further out and properly start to cover KW and Hamilton.
I'd be happy to start some more detailed coverage of Hamilton stuff if you want, including getting it added to the cranes list. A lot of the threads already exist on SkyriseCities and could probably be brought into the UT interface just through a coding change to make them show up on the UT interface like they do on SRC.

We've talked about bringing the Hamilton threads back. Just been busy with other things. On my list.

And yes updates from Hamilton, KW, Guelph, Barrie etc. are welcome!

New photo series taken on a quiet Monday night yesterday.

Much more glass is visible now and I have to say it's some of the best in the region on a building in construction right now.

The tower cladding started installation a week ago, right now the only part of it you can see is peaking out from behind the podium. The panels are metal, not precast, and look pretty good so far. Great overall execution (as expected with a Quadrangle design, simple but handsome.)

Nice and reflective, the last light before night.

Not the best photo, but always a great context angle.

The mid-rise portion has seen most of it's windows and cladding installed and is really starting to feel complete. Some of the details from the plans were lost unfortunately, still good urban form though.

Single photo update: more cladding going up the tower. It appears the white sections from renders are black now, may be related to supply chain issues. Great quality so far none the less.

Tower is also close to topping out.

Photo series from yesterday, with some editing this time.

This first shot shows the layers of old to new. Still voting this as the best project the city has going on right now, even if it's not perfect. Best materials for sure (no grey spandrel in sight), the King street urban realm is great, other frontages less so being set back, but the original tower set a weird precedent.

Obligatory shot from the park, just the place I'm most familiar with.

The cladding is getting close to the top; progress has sped up a lot.

Always gotta get a shot from this alley. Just good at encapsulating all the new that's in the city.

The sidewalk is open now, the streetscape is unchanged as it was already consistent with the rest of the BIA. The first flowers are planted in the beds, which remind me a lot of the Dundas Street planter beds by Dundas Square (same black granite).

This building has the most pronounced effect on the downtown feel compared to any other recent build.

The King Street patios are already being built (the wood on the ground). I hope to actually use them this year.

This last shot feels like a good place to wrap.

I can't believe I'm saying it but this is the nicest of the new buildings downtown currently. I wish charlie west used this treatment for the white accents it was supposed to have.

As it is with DTK Condos and Charlie West condos (both right around the corner) the style seems to have taken inspiration from the Toronto's own peccant LuCliff Place. Ugh!

The top of it's north side poking up over City Hall:
