Toronto Yonge Sheppard Centre Renovations and Expansion | 123.13m | 35s | RioCan | BDP Quadrangle

Hi there,

I've been following the developments of the Pivot tower with a thrill, as being a tenant of the 2 Forest Laneway rental building, I do enjoy my unobstructed view to the West. This will be about 80% gone when the new tower makes it high enough. Wondering if there are any estimates on when Pivot rental options become available to the public and whether there will be any discounts for those poor renters who will happen to lose the most of their panoramic view due to the shiny new building.

Ozzy:
Projected completion of Pivot is spring/summer of 2020 and rental rates have not been set yet but will be competitive with Forest Laneway rates and possibly less. Pivot units will be condo sized, approximately 500 sq. ft. for a 1 bedroom compared to approx. 800 sq. ft. in FLW. Pivot will have its own website in the future but you can register now for updates at this link. https://riocanliving.com/register/
No, there won't be any discounts at FLW for loss of view.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I will go ahead and register for Rio Can updates in the hope that I can afford living with a view in the future.

Getting ready for the next big concrete pour at Pivot. Only 35 more to go.

Some wind damage occurred to the loading dock roof during Saturday's storm. Workers had taken a few days to put down black plastic sheeting on the entire roof and there was no adhesive backing. It was held down with sand bags and foot square concrete "patio" stones that were no match for the high winds. One photo shows a mostly intact part and the other shows the missing plastic liner.

More stores coming soon. "Copper Branch" with a vegetarian menu will be on the west side of the food court opposite Popeye's Chicken and "Rickies," a casual ladies clothing store will occupy about 3000 sq. ft. next to the larger relocated TD bank. Sushi will be served from a kiosk to be built between TD and GNC.
Vivah jewellery will have a kiosk near the "Freshly Squeezed" juice kiosk. Dumonde Optical is returning to the "ground level" near Purdy's Chocolates which most still call the 2nd floor and Forest Nails and Spa will be near Tim Hortons.
Still plenty of retail available ranging from 100 sq. ft. up to 10,000 sq. ft. but you'll need deep pockets. When mall construction completes in 2019, it will be interesting to see how many units remain empty covered by dry-wall hoarding and murals. Not a good look.

Another Yonge Street frontage retail space opened today,.... well, sort of,.... the CIBC bank at corner of Yonge & Sheppard re-opened after their renovation. Note, bank seems to be the only Yonge frontage retail space that’s raised (notice stairs) due to former moat system here. Yonge frontage shops like Basil Box & Sweet Jesus are street level.

Construction update. A "green" roof was installed today on the loading docks, one office building cladding is almost completed on the south and east sides and a large amount of rebar is going in for a 5 ft. thick concrete pour.

I really like how that cladding is turning out, it reminds me of the Scotiabank building at Yonge and St Clair

The original crane, called a luffing jib in which the boom moved up and down to change its radius was taken down beginning Fri. A couple sections of the vertical support structure were left and a hammerhead crane with a fixed horizontal boom was installed. The load travels back and forth on the fixed boom. They'll be working all weekend to have it ready for Mon. The first photo shows the "old" crane. (Skira photo) The new crane also has high powered flood-lamps to illuminate the sight.
