Now back to the casino.

So this doesn't sound promising:
The head of the pension fund that owns the convention centre site also said Friday he is doubtful city council will endorse a casino in the downtown. “My vote says it probably wouldn’t happen. That’s just my call, said Michael Nobrega, the head of OMERS, which owns the Front Street site through its real estate firm Oxford Properties Group. He predicted the council vote, expected in early April, will be close.
From The Globe.

When the guy that's tasked with championing the project concedes it probably won't happen, I would say the odds are low.

I think its pretty obvious .......

Hopefully the casino vote will not pass. We'll see then how this project truly stands on its on, without a casino as a crutch.

Without the Casino, this will be built by the time you are a great grandfather:D

I would rather see a casino here than at the Ex or Woodbine. But I've had a change of heart about the casino. Let council have an up/down vote on the issue and the province should respect the city's wishes.

However, a couple more things to consider. Many have been very passionate about the negative social issues associated with casinos. If the GTA will inevitably get one, it will be within driving distance to everyone in Toronto that wishes to gamble anyway. There already buses going to Casino Niagara. A GTA casino will likely have buses running frequently from points across the city to the casino. If city council kills the casino and one opens up just across the border in Vaughan, is it still a victory for the anti-casino crowd?

I will credit you by saying that I think that's a very good question for everyone to ask themselves, especially those of us who have been (in general) anti-casino.

For me, my main problem with a casino downtown is the massive amounts of parking that would come with it. But if the thing is just going to be built right outside the city anyway, it does make you wonder if we'd may as well stick it downtown. Hmmm.
