The original plan was to have the vents on the east side and I think it is POSSIBLE that someone thought (if anyone thought) that having two red 'things' close to each other would be overkill. So they decided to keep the vents in their original grey. Then they moved the (now grey) vents to the west side. Of course, this is predicated on there being any rationale to all this!
