another one, more about the roof installation.
Market Lane is truly in need of some attention. The tree canopy in Market Lane is quite nice from above. It doesn't always look so healthy from ground level (see, e.g. https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threa...toronto-rogers-stirk-harbour.778/post-2150392), so hopefully the work they're planning will help restore their health.
It is scheduled for a massive overhaul beginning in the spring. Details: https://www.toronto.ca/city-governm...-redevelopment/market-lane-park-improvements/Market Lane is truly in need of some attention.
The fountain hasn't worked for years, none of the concrete paving slabs are level anymore, and the whole place is filthy and ugly.
Dated, dismal, depressing, makes you want to rush as fast as possible out the other end.
- Indigenous place-making/place-keeping
- New seating and gathering areas
- Preservation of existing trees
- Reimaging the existing fountains with a new water feature
- Upgraded lighting and site lines to improve safety
- Improved accessibility
- Reconsider the existing public art feature ‘Return of the Magri-Stechhi’
- Flexible programmable space directly connected to the new North St. Lawrence Market
- Pedestrian connectivity from King Street to Front Street

I can only hope that the new design is up to the standard of the nearby improvements made at St. James and Berczy parks.
Generally agree with this and the design seems to provide what you/we want. There were LOTS of community meetings and the result (though not amazing) does seem to satisfy most 'demands'. A lot will rest on execution so let's hope Sanscon is not involved!Honestly, if they would pave the ground with something nice, rejuvenate the trees in some way and get a working fountain in there (plus a bunch of benches) it would be a massive improvement. And good lighting at night.
They don't need to do much here, it just needs to be a basic square/lane where people can sit and eat lunch or an ice cream from the market.
cool, start the construction on the square in perfect timing with the opening of the market building. makes a ton of senseYes, the current schedule, confirmed last week, remains:
November 2024
The process of hiring a construction team will begin in winter 2024 and conclude in early 2025. Construction is anticipated to start in late spring 2025 and be completed by the end of 2025.
Actually it DOES as it is VERY complicated and usually not allowed to have multiple contractors on same site.cool, start the construction on the square in perfect timing with the opening of the market building. makes a ton of sense
