Back in 1996 when Downsview was opened they actually did place stickers over the map from around Lawrence West to Downsview. The purpose of this was to save money. The only problem was that nobody removed them when the station opened and they sat there awaiting the next generation of maps.

In 2017, the LED module idea should be tossed in favour of an LCD screen. Even a custom size would be cheaper than the dumb discussin above. Totally flexible. No need for this debate. Stickers. Really? Some things beggar belief. But my suggestion has its costs.

The Toronto Rocket already has the technology for high resolution colour LCD screens.

The subway map should be displayed on LCD screens. Not the Lite-Brites! Especially when practically every man, woman, child, and dog has a pocket-sized device that uses such screens (or better).

Even in London where the trains on the Overground which are rather new and even the Elizabeth Line trains don't have LED displays and TFL is far bigger than the TTC. What they do instead is place a map on the top panels of the train for only that line. It works rather well.

Just because everyone has a pocket sized device does not mean they will have the foresight to download a TTC map. People also need to know where they are going on days like today where someone tries become one with a subway train.

If they did that, people will express concerns that ads would eventually be shown on the screens. It happened with those small screens on the TRs that now show who funded the trains.

Classy. So this station will mean the end of all (or at least some of those noxious city/GO buses?
For the TTC yes, all buses that currently use the loop will be moved to the Pioneer Village Station Bus Terminal (700m walk away). However, we still do not have any information whether or not GO buses will be moving out to Highway 407 Station as they haven’t announced their plans yet. There is speculation that they don’t want to move as there would be an extra transfer including an extra $1.50 fare, which adds 3-7 mins of travel time, so they’re waiting for better fare integration or York U (or the TTC) making a deal to cover the extra fare for their students, but neither have been confirmed.

Even if GO doesn’t move out yet, it will still be a great quality of life change for the area as the number of buses will be more than halved, except for the extra walk required to get to TTC buses.

There will still be TTC buses on the ring road. York's campus is far too big for there to be no service outside the terminals: if they did that, many people will have to walk an extra 15 minutes to catch a bus.

Weren’t they going to move buses off of York St and onto Pond and Ian MacDonald instead?

Am I right that once this extension is opened VIVA won't be going to York U anymore?

Viva Purple is going to serve Pioneer Village on weekdays for a "transitional period" but I have a feeling that this is either going to mean several years, or the words "transitional period" will be quietly dropped at some point in the future.

They really should just stick to Highway 7 and not worry about south of it. I doubt the buses will be overly used over the subway.

Not serving York U would be devastating to Viva Purple's ridership, at least until Downtown Markham is built out.
