Sounds nice save for the ridiculous name. Why try and invoke images of a place that it resembles in no conceivable way?

I bet the offshore crowd like the silly names.

yyzer, did you notice that the just-around-the-corner Beyond The Sea complex was not included with the Etobicoke condos? That rather surprised me.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if they try to evoke South Beach through the architecture of this complex. Are we going to get 62 floors of Art Decfaux? Or maybe they'll attempt some Florida modern, and punch holes in the buildings, or some such thing...

rendering in the new Condo Guide, and also at the website....

http://www.southbeachtoronto.com/

2 typical towers, but a very interesting base...one side, assume it's the side facing Lakeshore, looks like, well, a block of Miami South Beach midrise hotels..plenty of retail at the base...

Interesting Podium!

I am afraid that the podium will end up being a ridiculously sore thumb we all is said and done: this kind of architecture works in Miami, but here if executed well the best it can hope for is being Disney World north, while it is more likely to just be a grimace inducing joke.

I think the podium is going to be facing Park Lawn, by the way...

PS - If you want to see what South Beach really looks like, here is every building on a 10 block stretch of Miami Beach's Ocean Drive. I'm afraid we'll only end up with Ocean Dive.

just googling around, came across this blurb in the Edmonton edition of metronews.ca....

Reminiscent of various South Beach nightspots, a “wow†factor is at work in the complex’s lobby.

Fabulous, famous South Beach! You’ve heard of it, and now it’s coming to Park Lawn and Lakeshore, mere minutes from downtown Toronto. Situated on four beautifully landscaped acres, South Beach Condos + Lofts reinvents the resonance between where you live and how you live.

This is more than a home; it’s a retreat. Imagine returning home from a demanding day on Bay Street and having everything you need to relax and enjoy life in one place. You can bike, jog or walk on the 350-km Martin Goodman trail, right outside your door, or meander into nearby Humber Park with its peaceful open spaces.

Indoors, you can plunge into the pool or let the cares of the day evaporate in the sun on the cabana deck. Work the kinks out of your body in the fully-equipped gym or the luxurious SOBE full-service spa, then join friends at the café or in the Ocean Drive Lounge — the entertainment hub of this new community.

Creating a vibrant community that caters to residents’ unique needs and wants is the brainchild of Amexon Development Corporation, one of the largest, most esteemed and respected development groups in Toronto.

The company’s extensive portfolio encompasses high-quality projects in office, commercial, residential, industrial and hospitality developments. For over 35 years, the Amexon name has been synonymous with building excellence and tenant satisfaction.

South Beach Condos + Lofts, one of Toronto’s most prominent “themed†developments, caters to those who value detail and design.

Sophisticated, trendy designs have been created by Toronto’s award-winning II BY IV Design Associates Inc., recipients of more than 120 awards for the spectacular spaces they have created for clients.

Together, Amexon and II BY IV have envisioned the perfect blend of form and function.

The lavish lobby, complete with tangerine chandeliers five feet in diameter, glowing glass walls, diaphanous curtains and eclectic furnishings, ensures the entrance is nothing less than stunning.

“There’s a huge ‘wow’ factor at work here,†says Dan Menchions, founder of II BY IV Design Associates. “We adapted the South Beach style with an elegant, understated twist, and thought about what would translate best to the specific environment of our site.â€

South Beach Condos + Lofts combines the richness of sophisticated design with the serenity of modernism to offer tomorrow’s urban lifestyle today.

Sumptuous layouts, rich colours and impeccably-detailed finishes evoke the shimmering allure of sun and sand in each suite. South Beach is a home that rivals the world’s finest five-star resorts.

South Beach Condos + Lofts, a $250-million-plus “themed†development totalling 626 condominium units and lofts, incorporates many unique design elements made famous in the timeless architecture of South Beach.

A retail gateway, fronting the development, captures the famous South Beach art deco skyline.

The practical luxuries of an indoor pool, steam room and sun deck with private cabanas are part of your new life in this unique community.

Add to this a fully-equipped gym, squash courts, juice bar, yoga/meditation rooms, a quiet garden, whirlpools, a full-service SOBE spa and on-site gourmet restaurants.

Other amenities include a multi-purpose residential lounge, business centre, Hollywood-style screening room, library, hotel-style guest suites, wine storage, kids play area and a pet day care.

All this is mere minutes from the busy downtown, but a world apart, says Jason Shiff, Amexon’s sales manager.

“It’s exciting, it’s social — it’s cool,†he says.

This exciting new development is only 10 minutes from downtown, with public transportation right at your doorstep as streetcars run along Lake Shore Boulevard.

Lakeview living starts from $188,000 to more than $1 million, with maintenance fees at 38 cents per square foot, plus hydro. The presentation lounge will launch this spring. Construction is slated to begin this fall, with occupancy in late 2010.

just reading through the latest Condo Guide (Apr 14-28), there is an article on South Beach on pages 86-87...it appears they may have shrunk to 28 storeys, but will have LED lighted roofs...here's what it says...

"marvelous twin, 28-storey towers, one topped by LED lighted blue glass, the other in green, each with stylized slivers running from the ground to the sky"

the retail strip along Park Lawn will "dazzle with blue, green, and pink neon"..

... and firmly establish Park Lawn as Toronto's premier cruising strip! Finally! Something to do in the neighbourhood!

First Time Builder Beware

I don't know about all of you, but I am worried about this project as this is their first residential project. Experience is key in the field of constructing living spaces that will be worth the investment. I look forward to seeing their product, although I will be honest with you, I love what I'm seeing with the sales centre at the corner of The Queensway and Parklawn - Hot car in the window, nice building and great product.
