Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

800m covers most of the central waterfront. The busiest stretch is between Spadina and York (Music Garden to Harbourfront). These 800m cover almost all of that, just one block short. I'd consider the central waterfront complete if they made it to Yonge (1.5KM) because Yonge to Parliament is all industrial right now and work on Queens Quay could be done in sections as developments like Pier 27 and George Brown college are completed.

Sound advice. The money's there, so build it & let people call Ford to complain it isn't finished.

^ If not, they go ahead with what's funded: 800m Spadina to Simcoe.

It looks they've decided against doing only the 800m and will instead wait until funding is available for the entire portion between Spadina and Bay. They're targeting September 2011 as the start date for construction but first need to cover the $26 million shortfall. This could be delayed for quite some time.....

This is not new. Waterfront Toronto reported earlier that it wasn't feasible to only construct the 800 metres. The extra costs, traffic issues, TTC concerns, etc. rendered construction of the sole 800 metres impossible. This is why the organization is seeking funding for the whole strip between Spadina and Bay - to avoid the issues presented in their report.

Uh-oh, are they seeking this funding from the city? I've got a bad feeling that this will only be built if the Ford Brothers are willing to push for it.....

Waterfront Toronto will likely seek funding from the Ontario Government or Federal Government. Both of them have provided significant funding thus far.

This project provides an extraordinary opportunity for visual improvements to the area. A key component for securing government funding because it makes for a terrific photo opportunity; and voters see their tax dollars benefiting the community in a beautiful way.

Given the upcoming elections, this is a favourable year for obtaining funding.

20 bucks says that this project will be put on hold indefinitely until funding it's found. The senior levels of govt are not in funding mode and are more likely to cut these types of projects in the name of getting the deficit under control. The Fords would call this part of the war on the car.
