LOL!! Good old Filmores...a friend of a buddy of mine actually went here for his 19th birthday couple years ago. He was wasted so he probably doesn't remember anything from that experience.

He will every time his Herpes flairs up.

The poor girls there are probably looked down upon by the tranny hookers of Homewood.

Filmores would be good if it was cleaned up, and used for a different purpose.

yup went to the area the other night, sadly for some not a single working girl in sight, this stretch is gentrifying rapidly thx to the condo boom. A 46s shimmering tower would no doubt help in that effort immensely. The $100mil retrofit of 222 jarvis once completed should also bring much needed streetlife back onto this corner.

It just puzzles me that the revitalization plan for Jarvis street calling for wider sidewalks and more trees passed back in 2008, so far no sign of any progress.

The treatment they gave to Richmond from Peter to Spadina would be lovely on Jarvis.

Ah...but they didn't really pass it.

The plan was canned in favour of the new bike lanes.

(the plan had called for wider sidewalks to accommodate the new streetscape, the room for which would have come from eliminating the centre traffic lane)

Of course said lane was eliminated but the room given over to bike lanes instead.

That really bothered me at the time. I'm a pedestrian, cyclist, transit user and driver.

And I completely favour, ultimately putting bike lanes on Jarvis; but that would have required a 2-lane cut to Jarvis, if the streetscape was done too.

There was no way that was gonna happen, so the pedestrian plan should have gone first.

10 years later, you sneak bike lanes in!

So far as I know the money set aside for streetscaping is still there, set aside, getting .2% interest somewhere.

So does it mean that we are back on track with the streetscape improvements now that the Jarvis bike lanes are set for removal?

Rather unlikely.

First, I'm not clear that the mayor actually has the votes for the bike lane removal. He may, but its not a given.

Many of the 'mushy middle' councillors will not be on-side, especially with the ward councillor opposing this move.

In any event, should the bike lanes be removed, its ostensibly in order to restore lost capacity for cars.

ie. restore the extra lane.

So the streetscape issues seem to be deferred indefinitely.

There is some work they could do w/o sidewalk widening, but not nearly as much as originally envisioned.

The part where the street curves has potential to be really interesting, the social problems of the area just needs to be cleaned up. Once that happens, the parking/empty lots would be perfect for some decent mid-rise infill.

I wish it was the whole block (west) that they were demolishing. It's all one ugly, decrepit structure and I'm sure it won't last long. Half the stores seem empty.

A few updates from Dundas St, from my cell phone.

Good Riddance to that ugly strip mall, the building that remains standing next to the convenience store is 155A Dundas, not sure why it was spared as hoardings are up in front of it, the Pace site should cover 155-163 Dundas E.

Redeveloping those shops as one superblock is not too good of an idea. Really, some of those buildings might actually look decent cleaned up.
