Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Toronto was MUCH smaller back then and commuting patterns were different and more regular...........9 to 5 and that's it.

Buses can help but they only can travel as fast as the traffic is and if traffic is at a stand still then so are the buses. GO is the answer and could be implemented VERY quickly. Yes the GO trains will become busier but at least the stations won't be busy enough to actually make them dangerous to wait at. Expanded GO service from Weston to Kennedy at a TTC fare would take every single Scar rider going to Union off the B/D line and hence Yonge south of Bloor.

Run the available trains, borrow some from other systems, get some loaners from the large manufacturers and get the trains on the tracks. Waiting for the DRL in a decade is NOT an option.

While I agree that is somewhat true, this is a Metrolinx decision.,Toronto has nothing to do with GO.

Bringing on more trains, getting loaners from manufacturers & other transit systems, and allowing TTC fares is only something that GO/Metrolinx can do. This lays bare the many negatives of having so many different transit systems serving the GTA......the act more like fiefdoms and see each other as rivals instead of allies.

According to the 2041 REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN at this link, page 48:

New subway line linking downtown Toronto, the Bloor-Danforth Subway and Sheppard Ave.; will manage congestion on the Yonge Subway Line.
  • From Osgoode Station to Sheppard Ave. East in Toronto.
  • Length:18 km
This is an "in development" project.

If Ford wins, DRL will be suspended in favour of Sheppard east and West extensions.
You should worry more about Yonge North than Sheppard. This isn't municipal politics anymore. The province has access to greater pool of funds, so actually in theory they (the province) can afford both - the new line 3 and line 4 ext.

I'd expect more of what we saw from team Ford in council; little to nothing. Plenty of grandstanding and nice words, maybe even a study, but when it comes time to commit money it'll be 50% shy of what's needed to construct the plan and no willingness to compromise on something smaller (thus nothing actually gets built as a result).

The DRL has a better chance of being funded today than ever. The Liberals now need to show up strong on subway front once again against the pro subway Ford. Id be shocked not to see them come out guns a blazing here if there was ever a time. SSE also much higher probability of seeing stops restored and more vocal support from both sides today. I also believe Ford will be a big supporter of the DRL. Although any transit that is non-subway he will kick back to the City as hinted by Brown or otherwise "delayed" indefinitely.

Ford can be as "pro-subway" as you want him to be, and support all of the subway building in the world till the cows come home. But how many subways did he and his brother get approved during their time in power again?

Half a station (giving credit to Tory for the other half).

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is $$$. Ford has a $6 Billion annual hole in his budget due to the elimination of the carbon tax AND he’s committed himself to further lowering taxes. Something has to give. The numbers don’t work.

There is the not insignificant issue of a platform that is not based on fantasy between here, and winning one hopes. Perhaps recycling the last one. It had a commitment to mental health. I know a few people who could benefit.
