There had been a guy pretty much camped out on the steps offering to give psychic readings or something for a while. Looks like this barrier was erected to keep people from occupying those steps.

Id like to understand some time why some of our developers don't build open floor plates as they do with office towers.
As it is these buildings are designed with dozens of immovable interior partitions and merging units in the future will be next to impossible.
A lot of the new towers in New York are building open floor plates so buyers can actually acquire the space then sit down with a designer to design their specific apartment.
Makes a great deal of sense. The units in Massey are regrettable.

makes a great deal of sense and costs a great deal of money. Those units you are discussing often sell for over 5x what the most expensive units in the Four Seasons sold for. Those are completely incomparable to projects like this.

They build them with solid walls for soundproofing, concrete is way, way better at blocking sound than a metal or wood wall with some insulation.

Are people just more considerate and better neighbours in NYC? I agree it's ridiculous to have all of this concrete, but I've had hellneighbours, even WITH the concrete!
 
They use expensive soundproofing materials in those projects, if the purchaser didn't buy out the entire floor in the first place.
