At this time, neither of the 2 tugs that brought the bridges to TO are in Halifax. The Beverley just arrived at Sault Ste Marie and the Louis M is near Dollhouse NB.

See no other tugs in the area of the site for the next bridge move.

Unless the North Cherry St Bridge is to be ship this month, another tug will be doing the move or after Louis M returns to Halifax. Looks like the bridge will be ship in May at this time and will be hard press to have the new Cherry St open by the end of Aug.
 
Quick note for everyone.............

In approx, 4 weeks, planting of the new river valley begins in areas that are finished the terraforming.

No aquatics yet, but trees, shrubs and understory are incoming.
 
I think this would be the first obstruction after lake shore looking north.
What is this clearance? Say 6’ on this day?

Water levels any higher and you might get stuck and any lower you might hit bottom a little further upstream.

Lots of work going on here this morning. Couldn't take a photo since I was driving, but they seem to have added stones here and some yellow floating barriers. A little further south they were digging out dirt from the river I believe (only had a few seconds to see). Big piles of dirt in the area to the west moving around near the river. Hopefully someone will be in the area to show this new progress.
 
April 24
The Tug Beverley MI clear Montreal locks on its way to Sydney NS after it drop off a sister tug in the Grand River and spending a few days there as well. It pull the sister tug built at the same time as it was being built from Sault Ste Marie.

The other Tug Lois is still in NB.

Still see nothing else around the plant for the next bridge move and putting the move by the Beverley MI to early May. Looking at the area yesterday, the New Cherry St will not open as plan in Aug.

Shoring has been place in the Keating Channel for protection to build the new piers on the west side of the Don for the new Bridge as well repair the wall. The area between the Lake Shore and Villiers is now 100% fence off at the Don Roadway..

The lower of the dirt at Polson Road still on going with traffic shifted to the north on Polson. Not sure how much more lowering will take place to have the new Cherry St meet Polson at grade or will Polson be raise to meet the new slope road. Dewatering taking place in Polson Rd that is now close off.

Drove by Saturday and the harbour lead line between Don Roadway and roughly Carlaw was ripped out .. with all the the ties in a pile. I guess they were a bit premature ?
In the (VERY unlikely) event that the City had not approved its removal, the track would still have needed to be relocated around the new Lake Shore so I think the de-railing was quite kosher there. Of course, last year they removed all the rails that crossed Cherry Street at Unwin Avenue (and the section where the Canada Post building was built has had no rail for 2+ years!). (As Metrolinx want the connection to the main line at the Don Yard removed anyway there really was never any way it could have been made to work again. It's all 'theatre'.
 
April 30
With the construction strike on, I am assuming the North Cherry Street Road Bridge will remain in Halifax until the strike is over. The 2 tugs that brought bridges here are still where I last reported them and see nothing around the plant for a move.

There is a supplementary Report coming to Executive this week. It now looks like Ports Toronto are not on side as much - but I cannot see how anyone can get Metrolinx to allow a connection to the main line. The Report says:

PortsToronto recently responded by letter dated April 11, 2022 stating that while there had been "significant progress" made on the matters raised in its 2020 letter, it disagreed with the statement that "a consensus has emerged on the removal of the Harbour Lead Line and Keating Rail Yard Page 6 of 6 Harbour Lead Line", noting that further discussions would be required in order for PortsToronto to provide written notice that it no longer required the Harbour Lead Line. In stating its position as set out above, PortsToronto is relying on its purported rights under a 2012 Siding and Cost Sharing Agreement it entered into with TPLC/CreateTO. The City and CreateTO disagree with PortsToronto and will continue discussions with them. The confidential attachment contains legal advice on these issues.

Ports Toronto can be exhausting..........they are a completely needless agency and we should be rid of them.
