Toronto L-Tower | 204.82m | 58s | Cityzen | Daniel Libeskind

^ It has to be. Didn't the sales office report that the available stock had sold out in a few days, back when they opened sales? Why in the world would they cancel with a sold-out building?

If you check most of the information contradicts planning reports and some I've never heard of on any of these sites. I wouldn't trust any of it.

Don't rely on anything from Emporis ... what's present on this site is much more accurate much sooner!

Granny, I always thought the 'O'Keefe Centre' was a 'stop and take a look at that' piece of architecture. In the 60's when it was built, though before my time I must confess:D, it was part of a new and bold 'modernist' wave of development and design that reflected Toronto's post-war ambition and optimism, in the same way as the TD Centre, City Hall and the Eaton's Centre eventually. It was going to be the only major live theatre in town at that time and it opened its doors with the world premiere of Learner & Loewe's Camelot, which was fitting really when you consider the optimism that its imagery represented to the same generation all over North America...

Superficially, yes, with the canopy and all. But there was always a provinciality to the O'Keefe as well, architecturally and conceptually--yet another of those post-WWII Royal Festival Hall multipurpose wannabes.

Not that it's bad or anything: just more akin to, say, the Princess Of Wales Theatre (or even the 4SC) as a reflection of its own era. For all Dickinson's merits, hardly "starchitecty".

L Tower Waiting Game

As per the proposed amendments to the Sony Centre Umbrella Agreement (http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2009/mm/bgrd/backgroundfile-19127.pdf):

If Ferncastle intends to commence construction during the 2009 calendar year, then it must commence construction by May 15, 2009 or such later date as may be agreed to by the parties (the “Target Construction Dateâ€).

Are there any indications at the site that construction is about to start by the "Target Construction Date"?

That May 15 date is rapidly approaching. Does anyone have any recent info at all into whether this project is going forward?

From this morning's Globe and Mail:

Sony Centre, developer confident of deal soon

JENNIFER LEWINGTON
May 15, 2009

They missed one deadline but key players behind plans for a condo tower above the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts are still confident of wrapping up the deal before long.

"Things are moving forward with the developer and we anticipate that the closing will occur on or before July 10," Sony Centre CEO Dan Brambilla wrote in an e-mail response to The Globe and Mail yesterday.

Similar optimism was echoed by Alfredo Romano, a principal of Castlepoint Realty Partnership, a partner with Fernbrook Homes in a proposed 49-storey condo tower atop the Sony Centre. "It is so very close," he said in an interview late last week.

City council last month extended to June 30 a bridge loan of up to $5-million to the Sony Centre. The loan allows the 3,000-seat venue to carry out $25-million in renovations for a reopening set for January, 2010, without having to wait for proceeds from the real estate deal to pay for the makeover.

Still, some city councillors expressed frustration at the time it has taken for the Sony Centre and the developer to close a deal originally expected by April 1.

avoid them? I'm dog-sitting for one this weekend!

seriously though, sometimes it boggles the mind how long it can take to sign a few papers. "Life is what happens while you're busy making plans"
