Those heavy, cheap-looking white pilasters that run up the balcony faces are not doing anything for this project. The visual bulk of the project would be reduced if they had just gone without them. It's also unforgivable that Great Gulf wouldn't use curtain wall / capless glazing for the openings on the dark precast portions of the podium. If you can't do at least a partial effort for the lower levels of the building that the public will interact with most intimately, what are you doing building in the downtown core of a city?

@corktowner* although from a distance i somewhat agree with you that the white verticle accents don’t do much. However when you’re closer to the building I feel they provide visual interest to break up the massing of the building. Overall I was a bit nervous early days of the construction but overall it’s turned out much better than my initial fears of the end state.

Here’s a couple more photos from my walk earlier today.

Urbantoronto article today about King East Centre ( Front and Parliament) revised building plans includes a reference to No Frills being gone when the project is built. Looks like we definitely need a grocery retail store in Home condo building. Hopefully grocery stores will realize the potential for plenty of business at our location.

i have visited this thread after such a long time cause this building is a mess and every time i look at it, i get anxiety. does anyone else feel the same?

I think some small tweaks like brick at ground level and fewer transoms would have helped. However, I kind of like this one--it has an overbearing and dystopian feel to it.
