Toronto Gibson Square Condominiums | 137.46m | 42s | Menkes | Rafael + Bigauskas

Lots of activity at the site today. It's fenced off and there are a number of workmen and some equipment. Opening ceremony tomorrow.

Hydro trucks on site, as well as mounds of dirt and some other construction vehicles. Hoarding up around fronting of Yonge street and site edge towards the park.

Received a letter from menkes yesterday requesting my last deposit check that was on hold since 2009. Letter also stated construction will start on Jan 2011.

Groundbreaking - sort of

Menkes celebrated groundbreaking for their new 42-storey twin-tower complex and Yonge and Park Home in North York City Centre on Wednesday. Gibson Square, designed by Rafael + Bigauskas Architects, will be known on the skyline for its torchere-like tops.

Purchasers were invited to enjoy drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and a cake cutting ceremony.

After a short speech, Alan Menkes brought his team to the podium to officially commemorate the start of construction.

The cake, at about 80 centimetres, appeared to be as tall as a cake can safety stand without reinforcing steel rods.

Not that you care, but yours truly consumed a portion of the north tower, approximately floors 25 through 33, west facing suites.

Never thought this project would actually get off the ground. The high prices considering the product your getting along with the location. It seems like most of these buildings have been bought by immigrants just going in and taking multiple suites at once.

There has been much activity on this site for some weeks now.

It is a mini-forest of cranes, backhoes, drilling devices, etc. Excavation has begun on the Yonge Street side.
