Toronto Eight Cumberland | 170m | 51s | Great Gulf | a—A

Why don’t they add angles, dimension, a mix of material to these buildings? They just go straight up. Very boring.

One thing I've always admired about the classic Art Deco skyscraper is the three-tier massing, with the three sections getting narrower as you go up like a mountain. By contrast, seeing a big rectangle with the same cladding pattern repeated from top to bottom can be boring and uninspiring, unless it's an exceptional design like the TD Centre.

Great Gulf is not the same firm we all knew and love back ~10 years ago, and their recent projects reflect that change.
That's for sure!!
Development firms are businesses comprised of employees. When folks leave, priorities change and the results in this industry are more visually apparent than others.

More so the leadership which today seems far more concerned with penny-pinching with lesser materials and design work, compared to the previous leadership who actually gave a damn.

Most likely it's the same leadership, but cost of materials and labour have skyrocketed so they do what good leadership does to keep a project going.

While that maybe a reality, I'm not sure it should be used as a convenient excuse.

@Johnny Au
Nice shots... special thanks to the sky in your shots (and Benito's).

And a tiny bit of applause for the job this is doing to block the south elevation of 1 Yorkville.

Just by looking at the building, it's very hard to tell if this is a condo in Yorkville or some cookie-cutter condo in Brampton.
