The dark band of glazing on the 4th floor is a disappointment (for me). It unnecessarily draws attention to itself, and takes away from an otherwise perfectly attractive building. It almost appears to me as if it was an afterthought, a gratuitous architectural add on, that doesn't quite achieve any intended purpose. Perhaps if it was recessed a bit, or at least flush with the building wall, that would make is appear less obtrusive and interesting, but the fact it protrudes out from the building a touch seems to annoy me for some inexplicable reason.

I think it'll look less unbalanced once they clad that geometric corner inset thingy. The white paneling will give it some contrast and something to play off against. Right now it does look overbearing against the brick

yeah, it was looking great like a classic warehouse building with large windows, but then they added the band of dark glass. Maybe that is a passing trend in architecture?
Behind the black glass is where, IIRC, Artscape is going. Not sure if it's going to get a sign of some type on the exterior to express that, but the black windows are there to indicate that there's a special use behind them.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the black glass band. Someone could like it just fine but post that they do not like the angled cutouts, and then someone else would then post declaring that, yeah, the angled cutouts ruin the look of what's otherwise a fine building.
Two or three posts do not a UT consensus make. Whenever you get modern asymmetries at work, you're going to get asymmetrical reactions to them.

I think you've explicated it pretty well. I agree--it's obtrusive. The question is whether the general architectural sentiment being attempted here could have achieved more elegantly. My hunch is that it could be. I don't mind asymmetry, but this looks festooned on the exterior of the building.

Anyone who is been on the location lately. At what stage right now residential towers? First level is done? Are both towers will grow at the same time or Daniels will give a priority to West tower first?

They will grow same time. Occupancy For West and East Tower is only 6 Months apart from each other.

I believe west tower is around 3rd / 4th floor right now, with the east tower not too far behind.

Redpath put up a 'history of the site' banner out front, presumably to show the community that it's been here longer than them, basically. But yeah, I'd like to see it go. Or at least, clean it.

Reminds me of the condo/apartment buildings that were put up next to the Yonge subway line near Rosedale. They complained about the noises the trains made even though the trains were there first. A section of the line was eventually decked over to please them. Pathetic.
