Hmm, the so-called “Crosstown” expressway would’ve only traveled between Bloor/ Dufferin and Danforth/DVP. Kind of weird to call to call it Crosstown when it only traverses a tiny portion of the city

Wish we would hear a firm date of when Eglinton West is suppose to begin. You would think that there would be a lot of smarttrack money left over since there is no actual smarttrack.

Isn’t City Planning is actively working on the project, or is this a Metrolinx thing now?

Either way, one of them should be working on it, and I assume we’ll be getting updated in the relatively near future.
 
Ideally they would extend the lrt in both directions at the same time. If the extension has to be done in stages then I hope they do the west part first since scarborough is so against lrt and has used a significant amount on a vanity subway
 
I noticed a business on Eglinton with “Crosstown” in its name. Not sure if they named their business before or after the ECLRT proposal. Other than that, I’ve never heard it used in any context other than the LRT.
If you're referring to this convenience store, it appears that the name was changed some time between 2007 and 2009:

if only either 400 or the spadina/allen expressway wouldve gone down to its proposed length we wouldnt be facing the terror that is the dvp morning commute.
their cessation at 401 essentially is causing the supersaturation of the dvp now

Everyone talks about the Spadina Expressway being cancelled in 1971.
  • Looking at that map, it appears that Hwy. 400 extension was likely a better solution. It looks like it just quietly went away.
  • When the Spadina (Allen) expressway was cancelled, there should have been some plan to transition it from a Freeway to a dead end. Either continue south of Eglinton as 2 or 4 lane collector road, or convert Lawrence to Eglinton as a 2 or 4 lane Collector road.
 
In 1971, there was no GO Train service to Bradford nor to Barrie. See link. Today, there is GO train service. Soon there will be a connection with the Crosstown LRT and GO from the north, and with a discount fare.

In April 2015, the government of Ontario announced that as part of a broad GO Transit expansion project called Regional Express Rail, service on the Barrie line would increase from 7 daily train trips to over 20 daily train trips by 2020. The service expansion will also add 12 weekend trains in each direction by 2017, and 10 off-peak weekday trips in each direction by 2018. The railway electrification system is expected to be completed by 2024 from Union Station in Toronto to Aurora.

Starting in mid 2017, weekday service will be expanded from seven trains in each direction to 18 trains in each direction...

...The design for Caledonia Station on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT includes provisions for a connection to the Barrie Line, including a pedestrian bridge above the Barrie line and provisions for elevator access to future GO platforms. Metrolinx announced that an environmental assessment for the station would begin in the summer of 2015.

If the Allen south of Lawrence were converted to a collector road, then Marlee Avenue should be downgraded to a local road.

I would expect both freeways would be pack jammed with even more traffic downtown. More is not better.
