Toronto Crosstown LRT: Eglinton Station | ?m | 1s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This morning, the sidewalk on the E side of Yonge, S side of Eglinton was closed with 2 large pylons. Only way through is the colonnade of the CIBC building.
There is simply not enough space for the pedestrian traffic here. More people are going to get hurt. Lord help us if there's an evacuation at Eg Station.

Sorry, no pic.

What can I say other than very busy! Lots of pain for major future gain.

What Work is Taking Place?

Beginning February 10, 2018, work will get underway in preparation for the construction of a Facility Services Building for the TTC Line 1 Subway system (pictured below).

The future Facility Services Building will house an upgraded ventilation system and will be located on the TTC Line 1 corridor (Yonge-University), south of Berwick Avenue. The new ventilation system will include smoke extraction for emergency situations at Eglinton Station. Fans will be equipped with acoustic dampers to reduce noise, and, outside of emergency situations, will only run for testing purposes.

Crews will undertake various activities inside the TTC station.

Jan 28
The whole area will be 100% deck on Eglinton, a block east-west of Yonge St, including Yonge.

Can't tell if this is moving quickly or not but there's definitely a lot going on.

Interesting to note that Yonge and Sheppard has since become an urban intersection though. Towers galore and all the traffic woes of Yonge's other major intersections. They grow up so fast!

there were strip malls on 3 corners when it was constructed, though it has transitioned into something a little more urban. Eglinton is the first time a subway has been dug on tight right of ways in an extremely urban location since the Spadina subway in the 1970's.
