We really missed an opportunity to mandate that any new building along the rail corridor deck over it with a park and in exchange be allowed air rights over the corridor like CIBC tower 2 is getting. Right now, Telus, PWC, Delta Hotel and The Well and much of City Place would've decked over most of the downtown portion of the rail corridor by now. The city would fill in the gaps.

There's still an opportunity for the Metro Convention Centre redevelopment and Union Centre.
They absolutely would not have. How would that 'mandate' even happen? It's owned land and air.

i was thinking exactly that when I saw that it was cantilevered on both sides.
It's interesting that the two buildings have dissimilar cores but will look like virtual twins for the outside… even as, while 81 Bay is essentially a crimped rectangle, 141 Bay will be a crimped parallelogram.

It would be nice to see the city toss in some funds to extend the park beyond what is being proposed.

I didnt even know there was a potential plan to extend the park. Would that have to be city funded or could it be done privately?

I don't think 141 Bay is going to have a parallelogram plan. I forget where I saw the drawings but someone put a plan on here a ways back that showed it rectilinear. That looks like an old plan you have there - the park design, canopy extent are all quite different.

The floor plans for the tower are essentially the same for the second tower as the first

Ah, thanks for that update! Hadn't moved that original plan out of the 'easy access' space in my brain yet…

Yeah, luckily these will look pretty similar going up past the podium area. I say luckily because it makes working on the diagram like 50x easier (that said I'm always making improvements).

WHAT TO EXPECT
We recognize that this work can be disruptive to residents and are doing our best to carry out this essential construction with the least disruption possible. We have directed our contractors to be mindful of our neighbours, and to redirect work lights away from homes.

Metrolinx uses typical rail equipment that has been fitted to comply with workplace health and safety standards. Each various piece of machinery used for our projects are measured in accordance with a precise test procedure that qualifies the equipment. Tracks must be taken out of service to complete this work and as a result this work can only be carried out during off-peak times for safety purposes, when there is less train traffic, overnight.

Nearby residents will notice loud noise and vibration from power tools and equipment movement during this time. If you have any questions please email TorontoEast@Metrolinx.com.
