It will be just over an acre in size

The park area looks pretty small -- will that be its final extent?

You're looking at the final width of the narrowest part, yes. I believe it widens both south and north of what's constructed as it approaches the buildings. It would be better if it was bigger but I guess they were limited by the fanning of the rail tracks where they could get columns down. Hopefully we'll see this idea spreading west for a new city park the other side of Union!

Westside Story: The last section of the core is rising which suggests a new pour will be happening on Saturday

A closer view shows the Ring of Steel beams that are quickly surrounding the core. The portable crane is in the process of doing another lift. The beam will be installed in the square depression directly west of the orange coloured cherry picker

If you ask me this is the money shot for this project.

Those steel beams are fantastically thin and tall. This will be quite the podium!

Construction Update
Dear neighbours,

Below is a brief update on the progress of the CIBC Square project:

Construction at 81 Bay Street

The concrete core of the 81 Bay Street tower continues to rise at a rate of approximately 1.5 levels per six working days, currently nearing level 7. This pace is expected to continue until the concrete reaches full height in July 2019. Please be advised that on Saturday, September 8th we expect to pour concrete for the 81 Bay Street tower core from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The construction of the concrete tower core requires very long pours that last approximately 14 hours. Once started, it is not possible stop this activity until it has been completed. For this reason, extended duration continuous pouring of concrete is exempt from normal noise by-laws.

Installation of steel columns to support the tower core will begin in the middle of this month. Notably, two steel super columns will be installed for the tower core overnight between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on the nights of September 11th – 14th and September 17th. The size of the crane used to raise and place the steel will require Bay Street to be closed, and as such this work can only happen at night to minimize traffic inconveniences.

Rail Corridor Overbuild Park

Our contractor is currently installing the steel deck that makes up the top of the overbuild park structure. We recognize that there has been increased noise from this work due to the size of steel deck sections and some difficultly maneuvering on the top of the park. We are conscious of the impact on our neighbours and continue to work closely with our contractor to mitigate this noise as much as possible. This phase of work is expected to completed this week. Next, the team will work on installing reinforcement and welding studs to the metal deck in preparation for concrete placement. In addition, the erection of the long span steel trusses that will connect the south edge of the park to 81 Bay Street will begin in late September. We expect these next phases of work to be quieter.

To facilitate ongoing steel column work, an overbuild tower crane is scheduled to be installed in the rail corridor at the end of this month. This particular crane was specifically selected to provide a quieter lifting solution to limit noise. While it will not eliminate the requirement for mobile cranes, we expect it will still greatly reduce the overall noise impacts produced by the structural steel operations slated to begin at the end of this month.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will continue to share construction updates and work schedules to keep you informed. For any questions or comments, please email us at community@CIBCSquare.com.

Alison Kimmell

very nice of them of the updates and all...

If they're nearing level 7 on the core that means we should see it step in soon. The northernmost elevators are only there to service the podium, so the core should be getting slightly smaller once they're clear of that.
