I droppped into Toronto the other day and had the misfortune of seeing this one in person. There are some buildings one seeks out, there are others one seeks to avoid even looking at: this is definitely the latter. The crude, joyless variegated striping on the balconies is bad enough - what's gross is that the top is visible from all around, and perhaps even more senselessly ugly.
This part of the city had a lot of potential, and now it's frantically crowded with clumsily patterned, cheap, offensively dull facades crowding each other out as closely as maximum profit will permit. The amount of mammoth building here is huge, the amount of it actually worth seeing is negligible, any pleasure is almost nil.
It's hard to believe that in designing a city almost from scratch, that this amount of ugliness is what we've come up with.
