budboopriest: Perhaps that's because, to the eye, dark areas recede and light areas advance? A lot of the darkest windows are in the centre of the rendering, whereas many of the lightest windows are at the outsides of the building, especially on the upper left side - which flips forward visually when contrasted with the dark sky behind it.

Is that crane at the Bloor Street Nieghbourhood project? If it is it really gives us the sense of how deep that hole is.
 
Andrew, I think that's just the pile driver for the excavation walls we're looking at in those two pics.

I noticed a sign next to the CASA site (first building to the east) which has a sign posted for something in the mid-20's
 
The slab next door is planned to be demolished for another condo.

If you don't like 70s slabs in your view then maybe you should consider leaving Toronto - there aren't many views anywhere in the city that are slabless.
