lol @ the comments about naming a parking garage.

Have to be taken in context. The poster called BramptonBooster has been a very vocal critic of this project since it was announced. He spoke at the public meeting on the project, and has been very anti the project......filing freedom of information requests, etc. He is also very anti the current mayor and has been one of the people who have referred things to the ethics commissioner.

Ironically, one of his main complaints has been that the process in selecting the winning bidder was shrouded in secrecy and there was not enough public involvement. I think those complaints are, partly, the cause of this whole "name every part of the building" contest to get the public engaged/involved....then he mocks them for naming the garage. Ah well.

Snapped a couple of low quality shots from the south platform of the GO station yesterday.

Had a bit of time on Friday night (Dec 6) to walk around in the cold looking at the progress this project is making.

It was dark and all I had was my phone but I think the idea comes across.

This is the view from the NE corner of George and Queen (the building is on the SW corner).

Here is the podium looking south along George from the SE corner of the intersection.

Looking south along George @ the framing for the bridge that will connect to the existing City Hall building

The bridge comes out of the very south end of the new building (for some reason I thought it was more towards the middle).

The south end of the building.

Looking at the bridge and the building from a bit further south (essentially in front of the City Hall parking garage entry).

I was surprised by how much is being added to the north side of the existing city hall but could not get a decent pic of it (knowing the quality of what I got, they must be bad...right?).....once that new space gets to, roughly, mid-block, it opens up into a new entryway off of Queen (the old city hall lacked this) where the old Brampton Times building used to be...this is where it will open on Queen.

Given that it was supposed to open in January (since been delayed by the elevator strike) it does appear a bit behind schedule ;) but progress is being made and you can really feel the building imposing a new profile on the area.

This one ended up glassier than the renders suggested. I thought they would have used a silver-ish spandrel panel for the tower and some more prominent mullions for the podium.

I quite like it. Nice and simple.

I've liked this since day one....and have been looking forward to seeing what impact (if any) it makes on the streetscape/life downtown brampton. Unfortunately (as a lot of things in my hometown) the project got tangled in a political mess and people "chose sides" so those opposed to the current Mayor find themselves intentionally not able to make any positive comments about the building.
