I agree w/the sentiment DSC........

But I've witnessed too many consultants hired to do work that doesn't need to be done; to generate reports that answer questions City staff already know the answer to; and which are also used as a way to kick real spending and/or controversial decisions down the road.

In the context of this particular item, I confess to finding it difficult to understand why one would require a consultant when Bikeshare has picked its own locations since its inception, and when the mandate is now City-wide coverage.

Psst, Bikeshare also picked its own list of spots this year before the consultant contract even went out.......

I don't know how many of you are familiar w/the new Bikeshare Toronto 'Superstation' concept.

But they have launched two of them with two more coming soon.

They should also change this seasonally because Cherry Beach and Tommy Thompson could really use one.

From the description it sounds like a Bike Share employee with a truck full of bikes will be attending the station, if so it seems like a flexible way to adjust for special demand.

They also do this at events like TFC games, etc. where there is a lot of one way demand.
 
Maybe they haven't branded them as "super stations" before, but the ones at Bay and King, which get a lot of one-way rush hour demand, have long had people at them pulling bikes off the docks in the morning and restocking them in the evening.
 
They have had staffed stations on some weekends over the summer. It just involves a ton of extra bikes on standby, tethered together with a cable. The staffer can unlock bikes from the dock and add them to the tethered group and vice versa.

Station update from last week's Bike Share newsletter. Northern Light has mentioned the new stations already, but note the conversion of some existing stations to e-bike charging stations + the new ones to come.
