Toronto Berczy Park Revitalization | ?m | ?s

This example needs to be actually disseminated into wider public knowledge for it to be an issue.

I was over at Grange Park recently, which is also going through a redevelopment and I noticed that they are not getting the huge, ugly, plastic garbage bins that have been put in Berczy Park. Instead, they are getting attractive wooden garbage bins that fit in well to the park. So why can't we expect the same attention to detail in this park? Somebody dropped the ball here and was not paying attention to the details!

Didn't Corktown Common get nice bins as well, until they were quickly replaced with the ugly ones?

We've just published a front page story that mentions the official re-opening party for Berczy Park on Wednesday, June 28 from 3 PM to 7 PM…

…and which also announces our meet-up, to take place following the speeches and ribbon cutting from 5:30 PM onwards. Honouring the result of the (very close) vote, we will be at the Flatiron and Firkin immediately to the east of the park. Just head for the door and ask for the UrbanToronto reservation. We've booked space for 30 people, but if more come, I'm sure we'll figure out something!

We are really pleased that park designers Claude Cormier and Marc Hallé will be joining us. They'll be happy to talk about this park, Sugar Beach, the "bird bath" at the Four Seasons, and plans for new parks in this city, (including one now proposed between The Well and the BIG King West site (which you may have read something about).

If you didn't vote in the poll and you want to come you are welcome, but it would be worth sending a note to online@urbantoronto.ca so we know to expect more. If you voted but now cannot come, you may also want to update us on that by sending a note to the same address in that regard. If you voted and still plan to come, great!

Grange Park is not owned by the City, it's owned by the AGO, so garbage pickup isn't part of the same contract that now plagues our regular parks.

Unbelievable. The sidewalk's spray painted. Already. And don't tell me this stuff disappears. I've lived here for 20 years. Fades, maybe, but never disappears. The "phantom" markings never go away. And then the hideous Solid Waste Management garbage bins. Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things.

I've sent lot of pics to Tory our mayor and he doesn't care.. the companies are.. bell, hydro, water, and main company does all the paving, side walks and allgraffiti all over the city is OX..Am very sick and tired of these contractor laziness.. what ever happened to the blue prints..

It's bizarre to craft such a lovely park at significant expense and then sanction a department to immediately mark it up with spray paint for utility work. Reflects a real lack of coordination.

While the mayor talks a lot about coordination, his priorities in terms of coordination are the ones that minimize lane closures for motorists.

From today at 2pm. Great scene!

some "before" photos for reference (photos sources below). Notice the same blue and plastic bins in photo 3 and 4. I do like the green cafe tables in the 3rd photo -- maybe something like that can be added in the future. The placement of the trees in the new park is great, and it will be better once they grow a bit --

Was there just this evening, not long after you took those photos. As evident from the photos you took, the park was buzzing with people. It's such a bright, and inviting place, so odd to see in what it often such a cold city.

So wait. You mean that when we invest tax dollars in shared spaces that are actually really nice, people come out to use them? And this creates a sense of community, safety, and civic pride? Huh.

Sarcasm aside - you are picking up the government lingo - not everything has to be an investment. How about when we spend tax dollars in shared spaces that are actually nice, people come out to use them, and this creates a sense of community, safety and civic pride. Better?
