This spandrel that's showing up on all of Diamond Schmitt's residential towers as of late is distressing. Are there not equally inexpensive cladding panels that look a little better than these? I believe the back-painted glass gives the impression that there's a thin veneer of wallboard behind it, even though I know it's an actual, full, insulated wall. The building ends up looking cheap though, not inexpensive.
 
Developers should start using asphalt as an alternative to spandrel. It would honour the context of the sidewalks below.
