Toronto 2150 Lake Shore | 215.75m | 67s | First Capital | Allies and Morrison

Maybe this could be a better location for the Civic center to be located Instead of Dundas st and Kipling area. Because of it's close highway access bus, trolley and train routes. Not to mention it's close proximity to both High and Humber Bay parks and the lake! Condos and offices could be built around it. And if the Ontario Food Terminal was to be sold and developed. It could be perfect place to put a sport and entertainment stadium. Extending the entertainment area more westward from the CNE.

Got a postcard with an awesome aerial shot of the are in the mail today. There's an information meeting run by First Capital on the 6th of February at the Polish Hall just west of the site.

Apparently we're invited to give ideas on the future of the site while at the same time it seems they'll just be presenting their ideas for the site. I'm gonna go check it out and talk to people in charge to make sure they know that I think the way everything south of Lake Shore there was planned poorly and is a lame neighbourhood and that they should avoid the same mistakes.

The City wants to create a mini-downtown in the Kipling and Islington subway station areas. Besides having subway service, that area is closer to the centre of Etobicoke, which makes for good optics when planting a new civic centre somewhere. Expressways are yesterday's news for offices and condos—Park Lawn GO with a TTC hub would make the Mr. Christie's site viable as a mini-centre of its own, but the Gardiner is key for the Ontario Food Terminal, and as I have written before, the City wants it to stay where it is to provide jobs and make fresh food easily available for grocers in the city. They are spending money to upgrade the infrastructure there now, so dream all you want about it being redeveloped, but that's not realistic any time in the foreseeable future.

Mr. Christie:

1. big foot print so build a real neighbourhood
2. put 10 condo towers on the site
3. call Amazon

Have thoughts about the manufacturing loss and the potential of a great neighbourhood that mitigates the loss but... double stuffed Oreos are shrinking so I'm not sure I belong in the conversation.

So, shots from the (quite busy) meeting tonight, held open house style, no announcements, just vision statements on the boards, and places to leave feedback. First Capital reps and those from their team, from companies such as Brook Pooni, Urban Strategies, and several others, available to answer questions.

Below are about half of the boards… generally the more interesting ones to me;

Below, the feedback. You'll be able to read some of the notes but not others…
There are lots of repeats—the same complaints from board to board, whether on topic or not—(of course), and plenty of notes that directly oppose other wishes for the site.

Good luck to all those involved in finding a path through this!

Unfortunately I was unable to make this even since something popped up last minute and I really was hoping to make it out to it, but thanks for providing that insight @interchange42.

So far it seems like First Capital is doing a good job maintaining active communication lines with the community and they seem to be sincerely trying to gather input (without already having their minds made up on a set development plan). It will be interesting to see how this proceeds from this point forward.

Do they have a time frame on when they will give us there thoughts on this development ? I can't wait to hear or see it !

There's no website up yet about the site, so nowhere official to leave comments. I was told that a few months from now (like late spring or early summer) there will likely be a first concept presented for feedback.
