If Bombardier was to consider looking into passenger airliners again, it would likely involve smaller regional planes. The regional planes most commonly seen are aging and will need replacements before much longer. For example, the Embraer E175 ones used by Jazz/Air Canada Express apparently now average over 18 years old.
Embraer had proposed a new E175-E2, but no one wanted to buy it because it exceeded the maximum take off weight to fit into the "scope clause" in the USA.

But Bombardier or anyone else would face the same problem, that the newer and more efficient engines are also heavier.
