St Lawrence Market

Finally, the City is about to award the Market Lane Park update - to Orin Contractors Corporation - who are new to me. At least not Sanscon! PFR really need to move faster on contracts, this and delays on David Crombie probably mean both will not be done until 2027.

That's good to hear. I hate to be a constant complainer (ok, that ship sailed years ago) but it seems David Crombie park has been ready for imminent renewal since before the pandemic. Every summer I read that shovels will be going in the ground, and then... nothing happens. It really is frustrating.

This is probably a separate whine, but it also feels like it took them all summer to put the bike lanes back on the bulk of the Esplanade (east of Jarvis) and repaint some lines. Honestly it was about 2 weeks of actual work, but they would do one little part and then disappear for weeks, then come back and do another part, again and again, as if they were stretching the work as long as possible. To top it off they painted the lines really sloppily and missed a bunch of places where outlines were never filled in. It really doesn't instill confidence.

There is finally a bit of retail life in the Time & Space building, around on the Sherbourne side, just north of the Esplanade. Today crews were putting up window decals for Next Golf, a 24/7 indoor golf facility. I guess it's better than a cannabis shop.

WOW! Just what the neighbourhood was hoping for!

Moise is moving $$ to enhance the new St Lawrence Branch library (which is fine with me). As we all know, its new location is Queen & Parliament and it is 'interesting' that, if they actually close the existing branch at Front & Sherbourne (as seems to be the plan), there will be a 'library desert' south of Queen between Spadina and Broadview.

Here is the library map..

I hope someone (SLNA where are you??) will agitate to ensure there is a library in or closer to "Old Town Toronto" - either just north or south of the rail berm.

If the TCDSB (assuming there are Boards in a year's time) ever gets funding for the school they want to build at Parliament and Shuter, the intention was to close the catholic school by the Esplanade.

That site could fit a nice size library.

Yes, but that is even further from "Old Town" that Queen and Parliament. My point was the closure of the existing St Lawrence Brach will create a 'library desert' south of Queen bewween Broadview and Spadina and it needs to be addressed.

OH, I think you meant IF the Catholic School (St Mikes) closes then the Library could go there. That would work but to date there seem to be no plans for maintaining a library in this area.

What’s going on here? The same 24/7 golfing chain that’s going in at The Esplanade and Sherbourne is going in at The Esplanade and Jarvis??
