Scott Pilgrim film takes on Toronto!

a bunch of lucky people got to see an early version of "Scott Pilgrim" in Las Vegas (not Toronto? Hopefully soon?). read their reviews here: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/01/20...-of-edgar-wrights-scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world/

and this video showcases some of the the dirty, rotten nerdlingers who saw the film. i envy (adams) them all: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/01/20...-of-edgar-wrights-scott-pilgrim-vs-the-world/

i'm in lesbian with this film.

p.s. do you think they will premiere this film in toronto? maybe have broken social scene, sloan and metric put on an awesome Scott Pilgrim themed concert at Yonge and Dundas?

edgar wright talks about the film, recent screenings, and the editing/effects process: http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/01/2...enings-and-the-spectacle-of-action-sequences/

looks like North America will also be getting the film in August(!)

interestingly: "Some of the action sequences are like musicals; they are almost like dance numbers," he said. "There’s an element of spectacle to it, in terms of the fights are like dance numbers in a way, which is where Jackie Chan’s school of fighting comes from. Jackie Chan is most similar to Gene Kelly in terms of the way he approaches a sequence. The spectacle and theatricality to it."

here's what brandon routh had to say about the movie:

"I play Todd Ingram in the film. The film stars Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, and he has to defeat seven evil exes of Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character, in order to continue dating her. The seven exes basically challenge Michael, and I play one of them. I'm a vegan rock star with a blonde wig. Because I'm vegan, I have these special powers, the power of telekinesis. So, I end up having this huge bass battle with Michael Cera, as we're playing dueling bass guitars, and I throw him around telekinetically threw walls and such. And my blonde wig becomes a faux-hawk whenever I use my powers, and then flattens back down when I'm not using them.

It's ridiculous, but very funny. It was a character that I was so excited to be able to play. People are probably going to watch the movie not knowing that it's me because I look and act so different. It's going to be an amazing movie. They just did a screening in Vegas, that was very early with not a lot of effects in, but people are really excited about it and saying good things. It's something that people haven't seen before, kinda like 300 was groundbreaking, in visual style. It's going to be one of those film, I think. Like The Matrix was, it's doing something different that nobody has seen before."

Really looking forward to this movie. Haven't read the comic book, but I loved Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead and some of my favorite young actors/actresses are in the movie. It even has Mae Whitman aka Ann Veal ("Who's Ann?)

If you haven't already, for more Edgar Wright brilliance and hilarity check out the TV show "Spaced" (14 episodes, 1999-2001), finally available on DVD here in N. America

Run, don't walk and pick up "Spaced". Both seasons are in one boxed set if purchased (disc 1 - season 1, disc 2 - season 2 & disc 3 bonus features), my video store rents the whole set of 3 discs as a 7-day rental. Each episode is 30 minutes. If you liked Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz you'll love Spaced. I cannot wait for Scott Pilgrim, I love Edgar Wright stuff.

Edgar Wright also directed one of the four "faux trailers" that played in between the "Grindhouse" (2007) double bill of "Planet Terror" (dir: Robert Rodriguez) and "Death Proof" (dir: Quentin Tarantino). The two grindhouse films were an homage to b-grade films of the 1970's, intentionally presented with scratches, bad splices and missing frames -

here's another interview with edgar wright: http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/03/0...where-scott-pilgrim-movie-and-comics-diverge/
as expected, the film will be very faithful to the first three volumes and then diverge from there. hopefully some of the key plot points and character developments of the later volumes remain (i'm lookin at you kim pine).

here, the still unhip national post talks about Metric's participation: http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/...ws-new-track-for-edgar-wright-s-new-film.aspx
funny how they explicitly mentioned that Metric is a "Toronto band" but they do not mention (because they probably don't know) that the entire movie is set in Toronto!

p.s. I thought jacking a crappy picture of a poster and putting it in a blog was my idea.

p.p.s. everyone on this forum should rush out to a theatre (the Varsity) and see Xavier Dolan's "J'ai tue ma mere"

I'll definitely have to pick that up dt_toronto_geek. I've seen Grindhouse too... trailers were great (Nick Frost was the fat man IIRC)

Metric! this movie keeps getting better
