Scotiabank Arena (Air Canada Centre) Renovations

By-laws exist for a reason. It's really nice to have lots of colourful lighting on buildings and stadiums, but the brightness needs to be reasonable. That said, blackout curtains and roller shades are essential when living in urban areas to counter these exact problems.

Reminds me of a few years ago in Detroit, when Ford Field got blue roof lighting and basically turned the whole sky over Detroit purple. Due to the terrain in the area being incredibly flat, you could see it from 30km out when driving down the 401 to Windsor, and even moreso on cloudy nights. The city forced them to cut the light levels down to 25%.

The panels are already oil-canned and don't even meet at their joints cleanly. The west side around the video screen is where it's particularly offensive because you're seeing it up-close.

Give it a couple years and the dust and dirt that gets stick along these panels will highlight how lazy this reclad is. In the meantime, their shininess and the lack of any relief along their length is already highlighting their unevenness and oil-canning.

They've got their priorities straight: corporate branding ASAP, everything else can wait!

This sign next to the Gardiner has been fully functional for a while now:

Meanwhile, today work is full steam ahead to put up the LED panels on their next marvelous creation:

Not too hard to see now, this one will be a simple 2-liner spelling out:

Arena

And this gigantic masterpiece is literally at drivers' eye level directly next to the Gardiner. How long until this blinding billboard causes an accident?

The Big Ass S dims every evening to 900,000 lumens from it's normal 1 billion day time lumens

I think you are missing a few zeroes from your 900,000 lumens estimate. These shades are perfectly fine at blocking the sunlight, but they can't stand up to the onslaught of all the lumens coming off of The Big Ass S:

It's the colours that the arena are using though

Incorrect. That is the Scotiabank Arena brand.
It's their brand mark, but not their brand colours. They're using their marketing colours (for posters, ads, etc.) for the main brand which is somewhat unique (I presume they feel pretty confident their brand mark is recognizable enough without the typically red/white). Per their brand guidelines

Edit: looks like this "spotlight" pattern is unique to the arena alone, which is a pretty bold branding move!

Scaffolding Coming Down

This east facing facade had black cladding to cover the old aluminium cladding but the 'grillwork' toward to top of the building has been painted or plasticized the same colour as the new cladding

Scotiabank Arena Sign facing south towards the Gardiner is complete but hasn't been tested yet
