Scarborough Town Centre

October 24th, 2018

Interesting tidbit...
Callison is Nordstrom's architect/store interior designer.

An Exciting Development at the Scarborough Town Centre, Toronto
We’re pleased to announce that ABBARCH Architecture Inc. has been selected by Oxford Properties to serve as Executive / Prime Consultant on phase one of a multi-phase renovation project at the Scarborough Town Centre in Toronto.

The project includes a redevelopment of the vacant 236,000 sq.ft. former Sears building into a multi-tenant space and construction of a new retail plaza to connect the existing space to a future secondary building. Construction is planned to start in Fall 2019.

Canada’s 6th largest shopping destination, the Scarborough Town Centre is an enclosed 1.3 million sq.ft. shopping centre attracting 23 million shoppers a year. The Centre sits at the intersection of Highway 401, major roads, and public transit.

ABBARCH will undertake the work with CallisonRTKL as design architect and a multidisciplinary team of consultants. We look forward to working with the entire crew to realise this significant investment by Oxford.

ABBARCH Architecture Inc. is a full-service architectural firm with offices in Vancouver and Toronto. Founded in 1979, we have been practicing nationwide in 10 provinces for 39 years. ABBARCH has built its reputation on developing strong client relationships and delivering solutions that create value for our clients. S&H Health Food doesn't surprise me as they had been on life support for years.

Similarly, IKEA wasn't a great fit. Nice idea but it was like the Leons at the Roundhouse. If you wanted to have anything of value you had to go to another store to get it.

What does surprise is me is Dynamite. It was in the perfect location and seemed to be doing well.

Stores recently closed at STC now includes Toys R Us, Ikea, Reitmans, Dynamite, S&H Health Foods, and Littleable

yeah scarborough town centre really has been in decline recently, with the srt now closed, homelessness near the scarborough centre station entrance, hudsons bay, toys r us, ikea now closed, and a deadly shooting inside a washroom. STC needs to WAKE UP!

To be fair, there have always been homeless outside the subway entrance.

What is killing the mall is the loss of key anchors. When the mall has 3 anchors (The Bay, Sears and Walmart) it was flourishing. When they left, the mall started to decline in favor of Markville.

STC has been no stranger to crimes over the years. I recall a few riots by teenagers in the mall over the years.

it's kinda sad to see those retailers gone. how quick do you believe would new retailers like la maison simons and marshalls/homesense to eventually fill in those spaces?

Winners is already there and from what I can tell is doing good business.

As for the other spaces Northern Light may know more. I believe he said to stayed tuned?

It works in some malls but I have never been a fan of having both brands in the same mall. They sell virtually the same merchandise in both causing one to pull from the other.
