It's not really a 'new' quote -- it's one of the first things he said at the original meeting. It just wasn't reported in the original story. The "guest column" thing they ran in the Sun indicates he's going to "work with them" -- whatever that means. But his column totally misses the point that the goal is to keep the majority of people out of places like Thistletown and to try to help them make progress and integrate them into the community.

There was a big grass roots support for Nenshi though, he did a lot of viral marketing, big ad campaigns involving lots of supporters. This is from wiki:

His 2010 campaign for mayor was dubbed the "Purple Revolution"[18] was uniquely a viral campaign which relied heavily on using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to promote his platform and hyper-engage voters.[19] The "Purple Revolution" was so chosen according to Nenshi I.T. campaign specialist Richard Einarson, was for a broad appeal across the socio-economic spectrum of liberal red and conservative blue voters.[20]

Beside viral campaigning, the volunteer body of 'Team Nenshi' were given a great degree of autonomy to exercise creative talent. The team promoted the cause through creative Guerrilla Marketing tactics such as 'Operation Purple Dawn'. Nenshi's supporters converged on the city in a mass rally on the evening before election day. They advertised Nenshi by posting signs and writing platform slogans with chalk graffiti on pavement of high traffic locations.[20] Supporters offered their homes as venues for coffee parties where Nenshi spoke to the gathered about his platform. The coffee parties offered a friendly atmosphere for friends to discuss the volatile nature of sensitive political issues without risking their relationships. Approximately 40 parties were held during the campaign.[20]

And because they're the ones people are going to vote for. Stintz, Soknacki, Goldkind and all the other fringe candidates are all also rans. This contest is Ford, Tory, Chow, the rest are irrelevant in terms of how they are and will poll. If you want to get rid of Ford, you have to hold your nose and vote for Tory or Chow.

Who knows? Anecdotal evidence and the NIMBYs get up in arms. Perhaps there was one car broken into, and it has been spun into a neighbourhood epidemic.

Maybe there have been police vehicles at the home. But maybe they were there because the kids were bullied at school. Who says they have to be there because the kids at the home were in trouble?

Again, Fords have police vehicles at their home quite regularly. The NIMBYs need to get up in arms about that, not to mention their known low-life associates that they bring into the neighbourhood.

There is another choice. Take advantage of the next five months to help put a fire under a better candidate. That grassroots movement that put Nenshi in office built slowly over the campaign, and he listened closely to his volunteers for ideas to get people engaged. I am doing the opposite of predicting a surprise win for Soknacki, I am suggesting that we take some of this anger towards the Ford circus and get engaged with some of the better candidates. Come election day we may have to hold our noses, but we can work towards preventing that now rather than just giving up.

He is my favourite so far. And given his low numbers, I am hoping for a Nenshi like ascendancy too!

Other than a few awkward mannerisms, I thought Soknacki killed the first debate! My personal choices aside, I think we have a chance to really force the candidates to polish their platforms and ideas over the next few months. Just hoping that Ford gets arrested soon so we can all refocus on electing someone better than just "not Ford".

Thanks for the link. It really is up to Chow now I think. Prior to the election announcements I was curious to see what Tory's platform would look like. Turns out he was a lame duck from the start.

Unfortunately, the Liberals decided that finding quick fixes to their financial mess was more important than providing these vital services to our youth. They decided to close the doors of this facility, sell it off to developers, and instead create less costly group homes in densely populated suburban family neighbourhoods. This is an issue that is now being felt in many residential communities across Toronto.
